Making a Small Bowl with a Toy Pottery Wheel

I am in my second home for the long weekend. I don't come home to this house very often anymore because of the heat. I used to go back and forth every 3 - 4 weeks and I really need to start back doing that. I went into my craft room and discovered some goodies that will help me with my pottery projects from my classes.

I discovered a toy pottery wheel that was new when I bought it at a thrift store years ago. It is motorized and it came with some air dry clay. I opened it up and tried my luck with it. The motor is not very strong, but it does spin around. This will be helpful for trimming leather hard clay pots or for slip tracing on leather hard pots.

I made a small clay bowl but I don't have my pottery tools at this house, so I just used a serrated knife that was handy and my hands to help shape it. I also found some brass stencils when I was foraging around in my craft room.

I tried one out on the bottom of the clay bowl that I made and I can already visualize several applications when I get back to my pottery class.

I don't know what I am going to do with this small pot, once it is dry, but it was good to see the possibilities that exist on even a toy wheel. Banding wheels are expensive and I can see using this toy wheel as a makeshift banding wheel.

Have a good evening!
