This is the freewrite challenge. I am using @mariannewest’s #freewrite prompt to write this piece (https://steemit.com/freewrite/@mariannewest/day-676-5-minute-freewrite-tuesday-prompt-uncertain-future)

Today’s prompt is:

Sally stared through the tiny window in her cell. There was only ice and snow to look at. Even the birds didn't bother flying this high. There were no bars on the window, it was too small for a human adult to squeeze through.

Sally knew this for a fact, as she had tried on numerous occasions. Twice in the first week, after her arrival, and then as the weight began to drop off her, once a month. It was hopeless.

She shivered and pulled the thin material of the shirt she was given to wear at night about her. It did not help against the cold. She wondered how long it would be before the guards came to take her to work. She had resisted at first. Why should she help them, contribute to her captivity? But she soon learned it was the only way she earned hot food. And besides, the work kept her warm, kept her occupied.

She wondered about Rory, as she did every waking moment. Her son had been ripped from her arms when she was taken - dragged off to her uncertain future in the internment camp.

She hoped John was taking good care of him.

As usual, I started with the freewrite prompt and used themostdangerouswritingapp.com to write the first five minutes (and then popped it into google docs to check for errors and tidy it up a bit):

The NEW @SteemFiction book, has been published! Currently available on Amazon for the Kindle it is now available as a paperback too!

Dead Silence

9 tales of MURDER from some of your favourite STEEM writers!

Check out the trailer for the book!

I have a story in it called The Still Blood-Soaked Path

A YouTube documentary film-maker visits a remote island to investigate the horrific murder of a young woman, and the subsequent suicide of her killer almost thirty years ago. But was the young lover really responsible for the brutal slaying of his girlfriend? And if not who was?

I had a comment left on one of my freewrites and I have to say, it made my day!

“Hey I got the book and want to tell you how much I enjoyed your story! Loved the twist at the end… you somehow nearly always manage to produce an unexpected twist... Love the care you take with your characters, intertwining them.” @owasco

@steemfiction - Voices In The Darkness, 8 tales by 8 STEEMains, published NOW on Amazon kindle!

Voices In The Darkness is now ALSO available as a paperback!

If you want a taster of what is in the book, the video below shows me reading the first 900 words, or so, of my story, The Tell-Tale Dead

Was his future certain before that event?

I was reminded of a Zen fable, again. I know I have written is somewhere around the blockchain.

A patron of a Zen monastery was insistent upon asking the lama again and again for a future reading until the Wise Old Man (no campfire) agreed to do this favor despite he detested the idea of reading the future. He stared at the patron's hand and hm...ed and hm...ed until he was able to confirm — "Yes, your future will be uncertain".
