"raking leaves" a five minute freewrite

raking leaves

Faver led the way down the stairs. He walked slowly. He didn't have any blueberries in the fridge. He didn't have anything in the fridge as far as he could remember. But for some reason it was the first thing that came to mind.
He needed a chance to get his head together, to think. And he couldn't do that whilst looking at this strange "digital human" rat-man-boy (now just a boy, who was dragging his teddy bear down the stairs, holding it now by one ear).
Faver's mind felt cluttered and he couldn't make sense of any of the ideas. He felt as though all his thoughts were like so many leaves in a garden on a windy day. No matter how hard he tried to rake the leaves into an orderly thought pile the wind would take hold of them and scatter them.
He was so confused.
He reached the kitchen. He considered making a run for it, running out of the kitchen door. But he wasn't sure if the lock would work for him, and besides the rat-man-boy had been following him all day, he couldn't possibly hope to get away. He sat down at the kitchen table.
"You can check the fridge if you want," he said. "Just tell me what it is you want me to do."
The boy smiled. "That's more like it."
