Sally was doing her best not to hate her husband. As difficult as it was to believe sometimes now, she had been desperately in love with John. And she had believed he had loved her too. But something had happened.
After taking part in the Big System Change they had both been energised by the excitement and potential for change. But power corrupts. It didn't take long for Sally to see that the System had just fallen into the old shoes of the previous Government and was as bad.
No, Sally corrected herself, it was worse.
John refused to believe that all the time and effort they had put into the Change had been counterproductive.
"We have become a part of the problem," Sally said, pouring hot water into a mug, watching the tea colour the water.
"No!" John shouted. And he had stormed past her, knocking her as he went, boiling water splashed from the kettle onto her skin, burning it. As she ran cold water over the burnt skin Sally had wondered where things had gone so wrong.
