Sally noticed something through the window. A feather blowing this way and that in the cold northern wind. She stretched out her hand. The window was small and in order to reach the feather, Sally had to turn sideways and blindly grasp at thin air until... until at last her fingers caught the feather. She pulled her arm in and examined it.

Sally was no expert on birds but the only birds she had seen this high up were eagles so she assumed it was an eagle feather. She stroked it, enjoying its texture. Carefully she placed the feather under her pillow. When the Guardians swept her room they would find it and remove it. But Sally had no place to keep it safe from them.

Outside she heard the slam of a metal door. They were coming! At last. She hoped they would bring hot food and then take her out for exercise. It had been a number of days since she had been allowed out of her cell and she missed the fresh air on her face.
