Back Alley Bangkok Adventures

"Seat's Taken"

One of the afternoons in Bangkok, @faitherz33 and I were coming back from Art Show at the YELO House and trying to get back to the hotel. Normally it is a pretty quick boat ride, but during "rush hour," all forms of public transit, from the sky trains, to the boats, get extremely full. So as when the boat pulled up and it was totally full, it reminded me of the scene from Forrest Gump where no one would let him sit on the bus.

So instead of sitting there at the boat stop all night like a bunch of weirdos, we decided we would just go on an adventure and walk back along the river. Sounds easy enough, right?

So we started on our journey as the sun was setting. There is some pretty cool art on the walls along the canal, but this one was pretty funny. The canal is a pretty straight shot to the Prince Palace Hotel and it should have been just two or three stops, but it got a bit tricky pretty quick.

One side of the sidewalk along the canal ends and then there might be a bridge to cross to get to the other side and hopefully you can continue to make your way along the canal so you know you are going in the right direction because it is very easy to get turned around.

This rooster was just chillin on one of the bridges that we crossed over. It must have been hanging out on this ledge for a very long time because it had been laying some turds on there for a while.

Eventually the sidewalks on both sides just stopped and then we were forced to venture out into the alleyways. By this time the sun was down and it was dark. We were still about a mile or so away from the hotel, which through the concrete jungle of buildings is a very long distance to twist and turn through this maze.

Lucky for us, we had purchased international data plans for our phones so we actually had the ability to use Google Maps, so we could make our way through all of this.

Some of the dark alley ways we went down had some very curious cats that were probably wondering what we were doing in their territory.

This was the last photo I took during the back alley adventure because we finally were getting close to the hotel. These cats were feeding on some of the leftovers from one of the street vendors. It made me wonder how the cats dealt with the spiciness of the food there as well. I wonder if cats get heart burn.

Shortly after this, we made it back to the hotel safe and sound, about an hour or so longer than we had hoped to, but it was still a pretty fun adventure.
