Community of Care

Hello Hive friends,

I am taking a bit of break from blogging. I did want to do this monthly COVID19 update. I want to document this unique time in the world and my life.

I chose my title "Community of Care" because that is how Arizona State University (ASU), where I work is branding their campaign for what people are like and how they will act responsible when they return to the campus on August 20th for the start of the fall semester.

I like this! Having a community that cares about each other.

Here I am with my family on the first day at Glacier National Park in Montana

It was a fabulous trip. Here are a couple of pictures to get you excited for more Glacier posts!

In addition to the the family I saw in Glacier and few friends I see on a regular basis I have a great community of care in Marco Polo.

The biggest question I have about COVID right now is how will ASU handle the influx of tens of thousands of students and employees on campus together?

They are requiring all students and employees to get a COVID19 test before returning to campus

It is actually really cool that they made a COVID19 testing lab right here on campus... and it is saliva based.

ASU is requiring face covering on campus and a daily health check. They are working to provide students with an education and at the same time a healthy environment to get the education.

We'll see this coming month how that goes.

I am working part time at home and part time on campus. I hope that as a very large community we can take care of each other.

It has been really hard to get out and walk in this extreme heat. I am excited for the fall and cooler temperatures. Someone once thought that heat would kill the virus. Guess not. At least not here in Arizona where it is currently 109 degrees and is supposed to get to 116 today.

I hear about the number rising in the news. I don't know very many people, maybe a handful that have got it.

I am so thankful for the community of care that I experience on a daily basis from the awesome people in my life.

At the beginning of the crisis I was so interested to know what was happening in other parts of the world and thought some might like to know about things here in Arizona.

On March 13, 2020 I posted Times of change and uncertainty. A couple of days after the World Health Organization announced that COVID-19 is officially a pandemic and Arizona Governor Doug Ducey declared a state of emergency.

On April 14, 2020 I posted Share My World: Thoughts on COVID19 about working from home, ASU moving to online instruction and some of the alerts and numbers of cases.

On May 14, 2020 I posted Monthly COVID19 update about wearing masks, social distancing and graduation online.

On June 19, 2020 I posted My life amid the Coronavirus about my second trip to Utah, a visit from Sara Quinney Jones, the killing of George Floyd and Black Lives Matter and how masks are now mandatory in Arizona.

On July 13, 2020 I posted COVID19 Monthly Journal about all the zoom meetings, question about ASU in the fall, how I was doing a lot of family history work and my new stylish face coverings.

Glacier national park looks beautiful. I think I'll need to add that to my list of places to visit.

I really like the idea of the monthly journal and giving more perspective to what is happening in specific places. These are very odd times...

On a side note, I'm always thinking about how Taiwan successfully handled covid19 , and did not need to shut down, and it offers a view into what could have happened.

Yes, Glacier was AMAZING! I had not heard about Taiwan, that is great that it handle the pandemic so well. I was just looking through my pictures from then. I am organizing them so I can scan and have digital copies. Great memories!

Ha - Looks like fun! I haven't tried Marco Polo.

This whole pandemic business is no fun. I feel fortunate to have been able to work through it all, but without being able to meet people and go places, it feels like life is just work... I'm glad you're able to keep up with friends online :-)
