I ran across this Freewrite from @wandrnrose7 on the prompt sea level. She writes about how cool it is to fly in a small plane, over flying commercial. I wasn't aware that these planes stay under 9000 feet, due to lack of oxygen. I'm not ever comfortable in commercial airlines seats, so I can't imagine sitting in a tiny plane. I heard that United was going to start using 10 seat jets to get customers to major hubs, all 10 seats are first class sized. Now that's what I'm talking about! 👍

It's time for another round of freewrite recommendations for the week. I must admit to having lots to do lately, but I did make a commitment to do this weekly.

I found weekend freewrite Moody by @wakeupkitty to be quite interesting. Love the animal characters. Plus throw in some magic.. voila! All the ingredients for a fun read. ^_^

Another interesting weekend freewrite was Desperate Times, Desperate Measures. by @inthenow. It ended with a cliffhanger, and somehow everyone wants more. Very interesting main characters. I, too, want to know what will happen next... :)

I just read Chapter 5 of @wwwiebe's ongoing story and I really enjoyed his unique writing format. You should read the previous chapters to get caught up. I will give you a hint. The author is on an exhibition, a freezing cold one and is bored, but he has a plan to liven things up. What a fun read!

I've two recommendations this week; first of all,
@felt.buzz's new pageturner in which a motley crew of oddballs have been placed on the bus to Scotland,

and @lucylin's amusing Knee freewrite a case of people who think they know everything are a great annoyance to those of us who do, when a medical student attempts to show her professor the superiority of her knowledge in comparison to his own. Definitely worth a read if you want a giggle.

This was a prompt that I just could not pass on. I was a fan of and I guess still am a fan of Art Bell. I loved his shows from Dr Doom, Mel's Hole, and Gordon Michael Scallion and his map. even Richard C. Hoagland who never answered anything. There was always some thing interesting or someone interesting on his shows, and Art really knew how to ask the questions, to pull the info out of his guest.

Becquerel and Curie by Ho-kahon

The activity of a radioactive material is the number of radioactive decays occurring within a unit of time....the SI unit for activity is becquerel (Bq), which was named in honour of Henri Becquerel. One becquerel is defined as the activity of one radioactive decay per second. In general, Bq is a unit for a small amount.
Henri Becquerel discovered the phenomenon of radioactivity. He shared the Nobel Prize in Physics with Marie Curie and her husband Pierre Curie in 1903 for their work in radioactivity.

I hope you don't mind my saying a few things about this.
I SPENT A LONG TIME WRITING THIS! Who knew a 500 word story could take half a day to write?!
And it was super fun, almost obsessive, to do so....It even had to explain the cigar. How they got to this point seemed critical to cover, and since I was running out of words (500 word limit) what happens after I left to the reader's imagination.
It's really great to have a word limit - made me take any superfluous out, and get the thing down to essentials. I wish every writer would do that. How many 800 page books have I read that could have been completed in 400 pages? This is a great excercise.

@mgaft1, we salute you as the astute and thoughtful reader that you are.
And I just want to say I do not mind if an author takes liberties with the character someone else created for the story prompt, not in this case anyway. Because, physics. Because, I like to thwart expectations. Why not a colonel who happens to know history and physics? Shouldn't characters step out of the tropes and dare to surprise us?

Here is an excerpt of what our esteemed @mgaft1 said:

It is indeed possible that this specific colonel was that advanced in modern physics, but again this is much more advanced than the average army officer level and it doesn't follow from his language and behavior in the introductory piece. If you were to select such an unusual officer, you could have given an extra description sentence.
For example, Colonel Arlong had special training in nuclear physics, which enabled him to discuss issues with sentinel architect on the technical level.
