My community and why is important - part 2

Last week (ish) I wrote a post about the community that I live in and detailed what makes this place so special and unique.

Since that first post on it there has been further development on my road which has positively impacted the wellbeing of us all.

On another blisteringly hot day we were all out enjoying the sunshine. We had snacks outside, fresh watermelon and lots of water games on the go! (the water games were mainly the kids!)
One of my neighbours grabbed some gardening tools and started sweeping the debris from the kerbside. Lots of dried mud, leaves and small bits of litter.

Someone else got involved, and then another, until soon all the residents of the entire road had gloves on and were getting stuck in.
We first cleared a load of overgrown brambles and nettles on the patch of the land at the end of the road. Amazing progress was made!

It’s more amazing that all this happened totally spontaneously, but next up, a few clubbed together and organised an electric chain saw to take out a couple of trees at the end.

Everyone chipped in, first with an axe (in appropriate axe attire, of course)

Followed by the CHAINSAW!

I love how all this activity was born from no plans. It was just an evolution of conversations and people being inspired to improve the road.
Soon we had a gorgeous looking street.

The last and most brilliant completely unplanned act of the day was the gents clubbing together to make a fully awesome den for the kids to enjoy, made of sticks and leaves.

Needless to say the kids love this and have been using it ever since.

I love my community.

And it’s fair to say that a healthy community is the result of its individual parts - working together, evolving ideas and being there for each other; to make where we live and exist a better place.

Thanks for reading and do forget that it’s not what the community can do for you, but what can you do for the community. Yes, I am a cheesy old fart.

'Well if I can't go to the ball, I'll just take it out on this tree.'

Not cheesy at all, I love these kind of community togetherness things.

Haha yeah - she never made it to the ball.

I’m glad you could see past the cheese :)
It certainly is feel good stuff. I tend not to write about personal life much or about where I live - but this just felt too important to not talk about. Community is great when you have it and it’s strong.

Thanks for the comment @revisesociology 🤙🏻
