Onboarding and Community Action

Steem does advance technologically, to such an extent that it is recognized as one of the best blockchains out there.

If steemians say that is one thing, they can be biased, but there are other organizations looking at Steem from the outside and ranking our blockchain or some of our dapps inside the top 10 in the crypto space.

That's a big gap from our current 80ish ranked coin by market cap on coinmarketcap.

Our problem seems to be... the lack thereof or inconsistent marketing, right? It has been identified as one of our biggest issues for a long time and by many.

We do have isolated initiatives marketing Steem here and there, and they matter, but to really make it count we need much more.

Some say we are not ready for mass marketing, given our limited resources to onboard large numbers of new steemians on a short amount of time.

But some steps have been taken here too, and it's much better than when I joined:

There was talk about implementing basic wallets (also referred as "light accounts") not requiring resource credits, as a way to onboard any number of people, from which only some will apply for a full Steem account. Not sure where this discussion stands at this point.

After Communities will launch, #1 priority will be switched to onboarding according to Steemit Inc:

The community steps up too in another gear. @pennsif has conceived an Outreach Program for Steem, in 4 parts so far, with the valuable contributions of other Steemians who commented on his posts.

One of the pillars of the Outreach Program will be getting funding. For that, the proposed solution so far is to have one or more Worker Proposals set up for SPS. The donation of 200,000 STEEM worth of SBD made by Steemit to Steem.DAO should improve the chances of receiving funds by the appliers, in my opinion, in this early stage of SPS.

The challenge is to gather enough votes to pass it or them above the Return Proposal level, and once there, to remain above during the funding period (to not lose votes).

Easier to achieve (but not easy!) with one proposal than with more, even though the proposals can be more precise when split for different funding categories. At least that's how it seems now, when only 2 proposals out of 32 receive funding.

In the 3rd part of his Outreach program, @pennsif talked about the necessity of having more suppliers of Steem promotional products.

We can add one to the list, put together by @nateaguila, the main designer of Steem Monsters:

Pennsif also created an account @CommunityAction for this program and anything related. I set it to receive 50% beneficiary rewards of this post.

Hi @gadrian - thank you very much indeed for your support on the Outreach Program, and for the beneficiary - much appreciated.

I hope we can build enough support to get this moving.

It's a program worth supporting for sure, and if it lifts off it will be exactly what we need to reach more people from different corners of the world in person.
