Community Ideas Thread

If reddit is an indication of the power of sub-communities, we should look at how that panned out in 2008, the year dominated by the launch of numerous new subreddits. By the end of that year (except for a short-lived blip following the 2008 Presidential election), no one subreddit (not even "reddit.com") would capture more than 50% of Reddit's attention. From the beginning of 2008 (to at least the end of 2012), there was a continual exponential increase in the number of unique subreddits people submitted to each week, according to Matt Essert (January 12, 2014). "Here's the Cool Graph Reddit Fans Should Show Haters Who Still Claim It's Not a Legit News Site". Mic.com. Retrieved May 29, 2015:

We do not have to be bound by reddit's model. We can explore our own. Lets come up with some community ideas. Here are some I thought of:

  • Ask Eli - Might be interesting.
  • Stadia - Google's new game streaming service that just launched.
  • SCP - All about Secure, Contain, and Protect (see: scp-wiki.net)
  • Minecraft - Why not?
  • The Expanse - SciFi done right.
  • Wikipedia Trails - Have you ever just browsed Wikipedia? Why not track the trail of curiosity and keep a log?
  • Typical Steemians - Where you go to make parodies of behavior you've seen on Steem.
  • Goats - All about goats.
  • Crazy Straws - Designing those plastic crazy straws.

Got any more ideas?

The new crowd is heavily shaped by this guy named Eric, who's basically the Paris Hilton of the amateur plastic crazy straw design world.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure you were talking about that idea with someone in a video not too long ago. Right?
