Arsenic Lullaby - Inktober and Alice in Wonderland

Arsenic Lullaby and Inktober marches on

FIRST...A quick reminder, that if you're looking for something to practice inking on this #inktober I have a bunch of penciled illustrations you can download and print out on the Arsenic Lullaby website. They'll be "non photo blue" if you print them in color or very light grey if you print them in black and white...either way it'll be a good base to ink up.

I picked a bunch, each with different challenges to them,

so good luck and have fun!

As for what I've been inking, I've had an Alice in Wonderland rough draft getting shuffled around for a while now. I liked the composition but didn't have a reason to draw it up, I figured I would use the basic composition for something else eventually and didn't want to toss it away.

Well, as long as it's #inktober and nothing I'm seriously working on is ready for ink yet, I said to myself "might as well real quick do this one"

"real quick" I said to myself...

and...i actually believed myself, that's the sad part.

It took about 20 total hours. To be fair to the part of my brain that said "real quick" ...this should not have taken this long. I kept making stupid mistakes and just not focusing on what I was doing. This one ended up with about half a bottle of white out on it and I can't stand the sight of it...although...It looks pretty okay, when all is said and done.

Here's the high points of the progress shots...

First the polished rough draft

then the final pencils at full size ( 11 x 17 inches)

and then the various stages of inking...

...and yeah...maybe I'll make prints out of it or something.

Hmm... the template is going to come in handy for me.... my daughter draws much better than I do....

I do like the Alice drawing though.... it's a favourite story of mine. In my head, I always thought that Alice was the same size as the cards....

I have featured you and this post for a Curation Contest here:

Oh thanks for the curation! be sure to show me how you do with the template! I took some liberties with the story, don't recall exactly if she ate anything that made her grow with the cards around.

My pleasure! Actually, my kid is having more success with the templates!

You always have so much cool detail in your comics, but then that makes a lot of work for you. I think it's worth it.

Hmm I can draw a tree LOL. Come to think of it I usually do them in ink. I love all of the detail, yet it doesn't come across as busy or too much. I really need to stop by more often, I do love your work.
