A dating application working with future technology

avatar

Today we are concerning on how dating apps will work in the future. Be aware that this is as much comedy as it is science-fiction. But we can never be sure when discussing about the future.

A german version can be found below.

The dating app from the future

Often I am thinking about how we'll use our technology when more energy and calculating power comes available during the next decades. I am going to showcase an example how future technology may increase happiness of the population - an example for the usage of simulating technology together with virtual neural copies of our personalities and a massive amout of calculating power that would be necessary to run such an application.

We swipe to the left or right while using several dating apps. This way "matches" result - I guess that this kind of dating app is really shit. I wanna show how such an application could work in the future, one that will work really good, based up on future technology - so maybe a thing that could be available in 100 years?

First take a look onto conventional concepts and their disadvantages so that we can come to a solution that really makes sense. All the shit with chatting to masses of potential partnes and so on must be stopped. So maybe we could build a recommendation system:

"Men who dated that woman, also dated ..."

But that would require countless of dates that have to take place. We cannot expect that from anyone. For social media content such a system may work, but not in this case. With the help of technology we have to find a solution.

So we have to bank on psychological analysis of two individuals concerning teir compatibility. To garant that a date or a relationship will proceed in a positive way, such events would have to be calculated by the dating app by virtually simulating them. The only logical way I guess. So first off that app would need much information about both partipiants so that it can run calculations about their compatibility.

Black mirror hang the DJ

A really good dating app from the future needs a virtual neuronal copy of both potential partners. A copy of their personalities. Then it can run several simulations to test how good they would behave together. That is important because this way they would not have to test that theirselfes, what could result in drama and disappointment. That's it what we want to prevent with this technology. It is literally about outsourcing bad experiences to a virtual copy of yourself.

The more of such simulations the app runs, the more valid the result will be. Depending of how much simulations are successful the score will be determined. A score of 99 % means you have found your "predetermined love interest", while a low score means that the potential partner is not compatible to you, even if you swiped to the right first - so the system saved you from bad experiences.

And the validity of such a test depends on what?

  • quality of the personality-copies - just some asked and processed data or indeed a virtual neuronal copy that can operate like an AI?
  • kind and quality of the simulations - complexity, compactivity, fragility for errors and so on
  • variety of the simulations - several scenarios
  • count of simulations per test - a score of 80/100 is more valid than 8/10

The time diliation of simulations makes it possible to run such a simulation within seconds. So that a score can be determined very quickly. To do so, a gigant amount of calculating power would have to be providet, as long the technology itself is once developed. Methodicy and technology would be critical for the validity while the amount of calculating power determines how fast the whole thing can be calculated. When you have to wait some months after swiping it would not make any sense, not mentioning the calculating powers cost.

So Instead of answering several quests about personal preferences and so on the best way then would be to upload your personality, so that the app can operate very sound. A problem would be how we can trust to such a system when we provide copies of our personalities and therefore very sensitive personal data?

I think such a virtualized copy of a personality would be created only onetimes because such a process may be even more complicaded than running the simulation itself. One way may be about connecting the human brain with computers, such as Elon Musk is about to reach it with Neuralink. Or such a virtualized copy could be modellated by using data that was collected otherwise. Or a method containing both possibilitys?

Such a copy may be saved in a very secure manner to allow access to it only when requeired for a test. I wouldn't reccommend Google Drive there... Decentralized cloud storage may become more important for such highly personalized data. A virtual copy of your own personality - more private and personal is not possible I guess. Assumed we have smarthphones one day that do have a billionfold of todays calculating power. This way each customer could run simulations on his own device, so that the data don't has to be provided to a third party. Rather just to the other person where you swiped to the right before.

Actually, what kind of scenario should be played in such a simulation? I guess any kind of standard scenarios for dating such as cinemas, restaurants and so on. I am not familiar with that. But if different scenarios lead to different positiv results, the app even could recommend the optimal kind of date for a match.

In that Black Mirror episode "Hang the DJ" a scenario is used that assumes two people would fit together when they can resist against authority and predominant structures together. So to say if their love and personal connection is stronger than their fear against that repressive system. The idea to write this article comes clearly from that episode. Or more from its ending. That the app works this way comes only out at the end and it is not much explained. That is entrusted to the viewer. So that in best case he may write an article about and publishes it to the internet. So as I did.

Even AI technology could be helpful for such a test containing simulations. We may populate it with some AIs to generate a bigger variety of several simulations. And therefore a more valid score that comes out. Finally this and other ways AI technology, simulating-technology, computing power and energy could improve happiness of human population in the future.

So in 100 Jahren vielleicht?

Black mirror hang the DJ
Dating App aus Black Mirror Staffel 4 Episode 4 "Hang the DJ"

According to the Bible, Is it sin against God if a law enforcer is forced to take someone's life in the line of duty?
