Whether you learn martial arts or not, you know about the punch. If we talk about knee charge, elbow strike, hammer fist, palm strike, and chop, maybe there are some strikes we hear for the first time. In a fight for self defense, you can make different moves.

Welcome back to Self Defense Situation - Part 89. In this series of posts, we usually talk about different situations and what you can do to defend yourself and get back home safe.

Chop is one of the effective strikes for self defense. Today we are going to talk about that. Let's watch this video. All video credit goes to Nick Drossos.

If you watch the above video, you will have a clear idea about the chop. To learn how to chop, first, learn the basic strikes. And practice that in a wide stance. When you are good at it, you can start practicing in a fighting stance.

You have to remember two things when you do chop. One, how to strike and hit, and two, where to hit. Even if you know how to chop, but do not know where to hit, you cannot use chop properly and end up hurting yourself.

You can punch in a street fight, but you usually do not wear gloves when fight. There is a chance that you can get hurt on your knuckle. So it is better to do palm strikes and chop. Whatever you do, if you are able to defend yourself, that's all that matters.

After chop, you can do follow up strikes. So make your move and strike based on the position of the attacker's body. So what do you think about chop? Please feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
