Zorki 4 - Old Classic Camera Made in the USSR

avatar

When I was in Slovakia I visited an antique shop, in the little town of Banská Bystrica. On that shop, I found this old camera made in the former USSR. It is a Zorki 4 camera and it was manufactured between 1956 and 1973. (*)

This particular Gorki 4 was produced in the mid-1960s, which was when the Russian manufacturer decided to get rid of the strap lugs, for some weird reason. (*)

The camera was in a very good condition and also very affordable, specially when considering its age. It only had a minor bump in the edge of the lens scope - as you can see on the above shot - which didn't affect its performance at all.

The lens scope can be removed and replaced, too. So it's just a matter of findind one in a good condition and the camera will look new again.

I decided to take it home and later I offered it to my brother, who is a huge fan of film photography. He's always interested in old camera models and I thought it would be a perfect gift.

I hadn't tested it... but I was hoping it would still work well. It looks like my hopes were fulfilled. Later on, my brother used it and he's been sharing some of the resulting photos here on Steem, under the name @fcdvpds.

Here are a few examples. Click on the photos to visit his posts.

This kind of camera of the oldies are always strong, reliable and could last for a longer time. However, their mega pixel qualities might not be high.

Your brother has just gotten a new year gift from you. Impressive!

Oh yes, the hairless sphinx. I find them cute but we dont have them in my country. It must be a weird feeling to touch a hairless kitty :D I love cats because they have soft fur.

They are still sold around here, in Portugal. But my brother has been buying them in Hong Kong. The Asians are big fans of film photography.

What a terrific find! He's taking some really great shots with it, too. Film gives a vibrance to pictures that digital still can't quite always capture.

It's not a bad collection to make. They have some use... and as time goes on, they increase in rarity... and price!

Nice photo essay. Those old shutter cameras are great. I actually used to use one. I even did my own developing and printing.
