Don’t be Lacking – Mark 10:21-22

Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” At this the man’s face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth.

“One thing you lack.” Wow. Think about that one statement for a moment. Let it sink in. “One thing you lack.”

To be sure we make the context clear, let’s read some previous verses.

Mark 10:17 - As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him. “Good teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

Yeshua replied with “You know the commandments” and proceeded to list them. The man then said how he had kept them since he was a child. Then Yeshua said “One thing you lack.”

It all started with “What must I do to inherit eternal life?” and concluded with “One thing you lack.” Do you rely on grace as an excuse? Or do you rely on it to walk in obedience? Don’t be lacking.

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until next time, Shalom.
