The 4Gs - Truths to set you free, Part 1

Yesterday I started a new series looking at the 4Gs. Unfortunately I forgot to post it in the Christian Fellowship Community, but you can read the post here.

The 4Gs are 4 truths about God that begin with the letter 'G'. Tim Chester asserts that at the core of all our sinful behavior and negative emotions is a failure to believe and embrace these 4 truths at a functional level. These 4 truths or 4Gs are:

  1. God is great – so we don’t have to be in control
  2. God is glorious – so we don’t have to fear others
  3. God is good – so we don’t have to look elsewhere
  4. God is gracious – so we don’t have to prove ourselves

God is great – so we don’t have to be in Control

Today we're going to look at the first 'G'. What does it mean when we say that God is great, so we don't need to be in control? If we think about it, many of us have a control issue. We freak out when things are not under our control, or when things don't go according to our plans.

In Matt 6:25-34, the whole passage, Jesus tells us not to worry. "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." (Matt 6:34) And in Philippians 4:6, Paul writes, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God."

We are warned over and over again in the Bible not to worry, or fret, or be anxious about anything. But through prayer, we are to present our request to God and trust that He will provide. And if we come back to our 4Gs, we can see that at the root of our worries and anxieties is a failure to believe and trust that God is great.

So next time you start worrying and being anxious, remember and declare that God is great, so we don't have to be in control.

It is true, we must understand that it is not by our forces, but God who has control of everything, we must have faith that with him everything will be fine.

Yes, that’s right, because He is great and powerful, He is in control, and He works all things together for the good of those who love Him.

My favorite is number 3, that God is good.

So true!! I tend to lapse into control freak mode when I'm anxious. But knowing God is over all calms me down 💕
