Backlash after China Weibo post mocks India Covid crisis

"appearing to mock India over its coronavirus crisis.
The post on Chinese site Weibo showed an image of a rocket launch in China alongside a photo of the bodies of Covid victims being cremated in India.
"Lighting a fire in China VS lighting a fire in India.""

--- Oh, BBC: 'appearing to mock'. What else could it be? Empathy with Chinese characteristics?
The post very much shows the petty nationalist character of the CCP. We are great. Foreigners are stupid. & foreigners who oppose us deserve to die.

"published by [...] the Communist Party's Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission"

--- To be fair, they deleted the post. But only after they faced a backlash by the Chinese public.

Beijing’s double speak: Why China owes the United Nations more than mere lip service

"Expanding the application of the law to those who sought peacefully to communicate with the United Nations and accusing them of “colluding” with “foreign forces” puts the Chinese authorities in a very awkward position. To apply such a provision to the United Nations, supposedly Xi’s bedrock of the international order, makes the government look purely hypocritical and cowardly."

--- The CCP & its lackeys hypocritical? Impossible.
It's simple logic: As long as the UN helps China, it's good. If the UN criticises China, it's evil. Hence it's not that the CCP is hypocritical, but the UN is Janus-faced.

Why African countries back China against the West on human rights

"the older generation and government leaders feel differently - and their decision to turn to China for infrastructure funding especially in the last 20 years - has transformed the continent's landscape with expansive roads, bridges, railways, ports and an internet infrastructure that has ensured the continent is not a pariah in the digital economy."

--- Well, government leaders obviously welcome China because they get a lot of money for it. & to think that the infrastructure projects by China had much of a positive effect is rather ... naive. The money went into the coffers of corrupt African politicians & to Chinese companies, who in turn used Chinese workers to build the projects. Now the countries have a lot of debt to China, in exchange for infrastructure that is often oversized or even completely unnecessary.
Overall a pretty badly written BBC article (on par with those late night radio reports from Africa).

Myanmar: Chinese firms allegedly associated with criminal networks partner with local armed groups in developing special economic zones, analysts say

"In total, 157 square kilometers of Burmese territory have fallen under control of Chinese enterprises tied to gambling, money laundering, cryptocurrency, and even criminal networks"

--- Just when you think it might be interesting to support the Karen by working for them as a teacher, you have to realise that the temptation of Chinese money is too big for them, too.

Failure to improve US-China relations ‘risks cold war’, warns Kissinger

"Kissinger said US policy toward China must take a two-pronged approach: standing firm on US principles to demand China’s respect, while maintaining a constant dialogue and finding areas of cooperation"

--- A bit more realistic from Kissinger than what I remember from him recently. He seemed to be firmly in the appeasement camp.

Stand up to China and Putin? Foreign policy at heart of Germany vote

"Baerbock, a 40-year-old with a background in international law, has been one of the Greens’ most vocal advocates of tying German foreign policy more firmly to values rather than economic needs."

--- Talk is cheap if you're in the opposition. I doubt, that she would be as tough as a chancellor. Just as Laschet might not turn out to be as much a wussy as he seems now. We'll see.

Chinese man ‘sold son and used money to go on holiday’

"sold the boy nicknamed Jiajia to relieve the burden of child care
[...] Xie had sold the boy to a childless couple in Changshu, a city in Jiangsu province, for 158,000 yuan (US$24,400), and used the money to take his new wife to different parts of the country"

--- The best you can do with children, I suppose. Although, $24000 seems a bit cheap.
Seriously, you should think this would be impossible in a surveillance state like China. But human trafficking of all sorts is fairly common.

--- Tote Hose mal wieder.
