Behind the scenes at China TV: soft power and state propaganda

"The network, which used the name of its domestic parent group CCTV until concern over the awkward namesake with the camera surveillance system prompted a rebrand in foreign markets"

--- Only a matter of time until CCTV actually becomes a kind of CCTV: when 'smart' TV's with integrated cameras become the norm.

"when former White House correspondent Jessica Stone did her live segment, the protesters were so loud she had to mention them.
“There was panic in the newsroom, all the bosses huddled over and began yelling,”"

--- By now they have an actual panic button to jump from live footage to happy, dancing Chinese, I suppose.

"Beijing insists that CGTN is no different to any state-backed broadcaster and is committed to principles of “objectivity, rationality and balance”."

--- Or, as they are known CCP-internally: "propaganda, propaganda & propaganda".

"The most public and humiliating reverse was the decision in February by Ofcom, the UK regulator, to revoke its British broadcasting licence — a decision that was likely influenced by CGTN’s broadcast of forced confessions."

--- Likely? Wasn't it one of the major reasons for Ofcom's decision?

China has administered more than 1 billion Covid-19 vaccine doses

"China has administered more than 1 billion Covid-19 vaccine doses, an astonishing milestone that comes as the country rolls out an unrivaled inoculation drive"

--- Western journalists ... Why do they have such problems to understand that Chinese numbers are huge because the population is huge? The are so awed by China's grand 'achievements', even when they themselves mention the actual proportions:

"the country's administered doses per 100 people is still behind nations such as the US and Britain"

--- Then why do you call it 'unrivaled'?
Not to forget the fact that almost all Chinese are being vaccinated with Chinese vaccines. The efficacy of which is questionable:

Hundreds of vaccinated Indonesian health workers get COVID-19, dozens in hospital

"More than 350 doctors and medical workers have caught COVID-19 in Indonesia despite being vaccinated with Sinovac and dozens have been hospitalised"

--- The good thing is that fewer people die after being vaccinated, even if they got that Sinovac crap. But if people get infected anyway, they will also probably be spreading the virus. How are you supposed to stop the pandemic then?

'Significant' problems linked to Sinovac vaccine in other countries: MOH official

"It's not a problem associated with Pfizer. This is actually a problem associated with the Sinovac vaccine, and in other countries, they are now starting to think about booster vaccinations, even six months out from an original vaccination for some of these vaccines as well"

--- Take Sinovac! The perfect solution for China's pockets. Because you will have to take another shot every 6 months. That makes China happy.

"Prof Mak noted that there still is some "outstanding data" on the vaccine that Sinovac has not provided to HSA"

--- Simply trust us! We are Chinese. Everything we produce is by definition perfect.

China's cryptocurrency-mining crackdown spreads to Sichuan

"Friday's move in Sichuan - where miners mostly use hydropower to run the specially designed computer equipment used in verifying bitcoin transactions - suggests the crackdown is more broadly based."

--- It also suggests that some people in China are getting richer from Bitcoin, but not by mining it. Every time the BTC price recovers, another news article comes from China with a 'new' crackdown. I wouldn't be surprised if certain people (obviously & absolutely certainly not members of the CCP who are above any suspicion) in China are betting on BTC price developments.

The scholar speaking out on China's crackdown on intellectuals

"He remains an anomaly. Since President Xi Jinping came to power in 2012, China's vibrant intellectual circles gradually fell silent as Party critics were arrested, fired from their institutions or forced to flee abroad."

--- Well, vibrant... Most hopes of a further opening of China were shattered by the 2008 Olympics. But almost nobody expected something like emperor Xi.

Australia takes wine dispute with China to WTO

"The main thing about a World Trade Organization action is that you actually get into a dialogue with the other country - in this case China - so it does enable governments to start to talk about [the issue and] that brings the possibility of resolution"

--- Since Chinese officials don't want to talk to their Australian counterparts, that may be a way to get something done. But what the outcome will be, who knows?
(An older version of the article called this an 'escalation', but obviously someone at the BBC noticed the nonsense in that.)

Reven og den akademiske hønsegården

"a separate, Chinese-controlled center on Norwegian soil. Fudan hires and pays the salary of the general manager, and pays for the center's activities
[...] the University of Oslo welcomed the Fudan Center. It happened without the university board being informed"

--- Fudan University in Hungary suspended (for now at least). Instead, Oslo university welcomes a Fudan Centre onto its campus. Some academics in Europe just don't want to learn. Google translation.

Kommentar: Gemeinsam gegen China?

--- China würde doch niemals einseitig chinesische Firmen bevorzugen!

Mal sehen.

Ansonsten gilt sowieso, daß Fragen willkommen sind. Wenn also Unklarheiten bestehen, einfach kommentieren.
