English news:

China launches 'Clean Plate' campaign against food waste

"Mr Xi highlighted that Covid-19 had "sounded the alarm" on food waste.
He added that China had to "maintain a sense of crisis about food security""

--- Hmm, almost sounds like the Wuhan virus plus the following floods have wreaked havoc on Chinese food production.
But the Global Times immediately contradicted emperor Xi (!) & tells us that there is absolutely no crisis at all. Nothing to see here. Move on, move on!

"Wuhan Catering Industry Association urged restaurants in the city to limit the number of dishes served to diners - implementing a system where groups must order one dish less than the number of diners."

--- Total nonsense. If you eat hot pot, you essentially only have one dish for the whole group. If you eat dim sum, you need several dishes to feed one person. When I have dim sum, I usually need 3-4 dishes (sometimes even 5) to be full.

"In a group setting, empty plates are sometimes seen as a sign of a bad host - signifying that an insufficient amount of food was ordered for guests."

--- Sometimes? This is the norm in China. The BBC again trying to not sound racist?

Chicken wings test positive for Covid-19 in China, but there's no evidence of food transmission, experts say

"The coronavirus was detected Wednesday on a surface sample taken from a batch of chicken wings"

--- Surface sample.

"News of the contaminated chicken wings comes a day after coronavirus was found on the packaging of shrimps imported from Ecuador
[...] These incidents have sparked concerns over the safety of imported foods."

--- Those ugly foreigners again. Trying to undermine the great successes of China.

"it doesn't necessarily mean that they're infectious -- the nucleic acid tests could be picking up the RNA of dead virus"

--- It also doesn't necessarily mean they are not infectious. Anyway, even under normal circumstances you should wash your hands after you handled raw meat.

In China, fears of financial Iron Curtain as U.S. tensions rise

"stoked fears in China of a deepening financial war that could result in it being shut out of the global dollar system - a devastating prospect"

--- Hmm, what? In recent years there was more talk of China leaving the dollar system on purpose. Now they are afraid of it?

State Dept. calls out Confucius Institute as foreign mission pushing China's 'global propaganda'

"The State Department on Thursday designated the Confucius Institute U.S. Center (CIUS) as a Chinese foreign mission"

--- Long overdue.

WeChat-owner shrugs off Trump's proposed US ban

"The tech giant runs an equivalent messaging platform in China called Weixin which it hopes will be unaffected."

--- Weixin is the exact same spyware as Wechat. Had the name Wechat long before they had any significant overseas business.
Wechat won't feel that much of an effect, because the vast majority of its business is still inside China. Tencent on the other hand should be worried:

"The executive order said it would ban "any transaction that is related to WeChat by any person, or with respect to any property, subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, with Tencent Holdings Ltd. (a.k.a. Téngxùn Kònggǔ Yǒuxiàn Gōngsī), Shenzhen, China, or any subsidiary of that entity.""

--- Tencent's other businesses are spread much further across the globe. So, sanctions could really hurt them.

ByteDance censored anti-China content in Indonesian news app

"“These guidelines were replaced in 2019 and we’ve since built and empowered local moderation teams to make decisions that suit the local market.”"

--- & implemented algorithms which censor in a much more subtle way through shadow-banning.

China’s top bank regulator sees surge of bad loans straining financial system in 2020, 2021

"the country’s banks have to deal with 3.4 trillion yuan (US$489.5 billion) worth of non-performing loans in 2020 –
[...]
The total marks a hefty increase from 2.3 trillion yuan in 2019"

--- That's the official count. & you know what that means in China.

"According to official statistics from Guo’s agency, the NPL ratio in China was among the lowest in the world."

--- Absolutely. China is best. No risk at all. Nothing to see here. Move on, move on!

"small banks, often owned by local authorities, are particularly exposed to the risks of bankrolling pet projects of local governments and state enterprises"

--- Impossible. The CCP would never stoop so law as to finance vanity projects. Never ever.

China's debt collectors flourish as consumers flounder in a COVID-hit economy

"Debt collection companies have been mushroominga burgeoning
[...] wave of non-performing loans is sparking concern among lenders"

--- Everything is under control. Nothing to see here. Move on, move on!

Nigerians Are Using Bitcoin to Bypass Trade Hurdles With China

"Ezike doesn’t pay the manufacturer directly. Over WeChat, he works with a middleman named “Allen” who exchanges Ezike’s bitcoin for renminbi, China’s national currency, and then passes it on to the manufacturer. Ezike couldn’t divulge which companies he deals with, saying, “The Chinese are sensitive with the data that’s shared.”"

--- Why, oh why? Surely not related to any illegal dealings.

"Businessmen and women on the ground aren’t exactly eager to publicize that they’re using bitcoin for international trade. For one, the legality of cryptocurrency is fuzzy in the region"

--- Good to know.

Privacy Commissioner says ‘no impropriety’ in Hong Kong publishing personal data amid US sanctions ‘doxxing’ row

"The PCPD’s response amounts to saying that the disclosure is ‘doxxing’ and ‘obviously excessive and unnecessary’ if done by the US Government, but not if done by the UN or HK Government."

--- Very Chinese. HK cops are learning rapidly how to be a proper mainlander.

Sexual abuse, assault – the Grim prospects for China’s blind women

"The visually impaired are encouraged to work in massage parlours in China because it is believed they are extra sensitive to touch"

--- Another perfectly fine & logical Chinese tradition.

"none of the women who spoke to AFP had filed a police complaint — mostly out of fear.
“I didn’t tell anyone — telling them won’t solve the problem but could make things worse,”"

--- Another perfectly fine & logical Chinese tradition (albeit exacerbated by CCP rule).

Deutsche Nachrichten:

Sierens China: Amerikanische Firewall
