English news:

Hong Kong: First arrests under 'anti-protest' law as handover marked

"Ten people were held accused of violating the law, including a man with a pro-independence flag. About 360 others were detained at a banned rally."

--- Only, on that pro-independence flag was some minor detail: "the picture appeared to show a small "no to" written in front of the slogan". Too bad, that HK cops can't really read.
Also interesting that the word "conscience" is obviously a violation of the new law. Chinese national security seems to have some moral issues.

*"Seven officers were injured, including one officer who was stabbed in the arm by "rioters holding sharp objects", police said. The suspects fled and bystanders offered no help, they added

--- No one helped. I wonder, why. It's not as if the HK cops would ever not help anyone injured. Right?

Hong Kong security law: Life sentences for breaking China-imposed law

"It applies to both permanent and non-permanent residents
[...] The law can also apparently be broken from abroad by non-residents, under Article 38"

--- So, if you ever criticised the CCP, supported HK protests, etc., you better not visit HK again.

China hits back at US with new media restrictions as tensions rise

"demanding that four US news organizations declare details of their finances and staffing in the country"

--- Which will change virtually nothing for them. That's the problem if your restrictions are already ridiculously tough. There not much room for escalation.

Canadian sentenced to eight years in jail by China, renounces citizenship

"A Chinese court has sentenced a Falun Gong practitioner who held a Canadian passport to eight years in prison for belonging to a spiritual movement that Beijing calls a “cult.”"

--- Only one cult is allowed in China: the CCP.

"“voluntarily abandoned her Canadian citizenship and waived her right to appeal
[...] ”she was threatened, intimidated, deceived"

--- Voluntariness with Chinese characteristics.

"The Canadian government would not confirm whether Ms. Sun had renounced citizenship. And it declined to say whether they felt she was given a fair trial."

--- Trudeau & Co., always at the forefront of the fight for human rights.

Did a Chinese Hack Kill Canada’s Greatest Tech Company?

"While Nortel struggled, Huawei thrived
[...] Economic espionage did in Nortel,” Shields says. “And all you have to do is look at what entity in the world took over No. 1 and how quickly they did it."

--- Totally unrelated, of course. Huawei is completely innocent.
(Anyway, the hack most probably did not kill Nortel, though it didn't help. But virtually all major tech companies have been hacked by the Chinese. Many of them are still in business.)

A private survey shows China’s manufacturing activity beat expectations in June

"PMI readings above 50 indicate expansion, while those below that level signal contraction."

--- Month on month improvement, but seems to stay on a low level.

Simon Cheng: UK asylum for ex-consulate worker 'tortured in China'

"Mr Cheng, a supporter of the pro-democracy movement, says he believes it is too dangerous for him to return to Hong Kong, fearing he may be arrested and taken to mainland China once more"

--- Well, with the new law, even without the danger of kidnapping it would be too dangerous.

Persuading China to switch to 'fake' pork

""Taste will always be the driver for consumers to convert their behaviour. It won't be environmental concerns.""

--- Not if you listen to some European activists.

Deutsche Nachrichten:
