Las ofrendas de los insectos

~

English Version:

The offerings the insects

~

He was still a little stunned, not in the mood to walk. I decided for a moment to sit by the river, to rest and think a little about everything that had happened, surely no one would believe my words, and I would be taken for crazy without hesitation. I was worried about how I was going to get back into the agency, if I had failed in my mission, and worse, disappeared without a trace, and then came back with one of the worst excuses you can have. I'm sure that not only would they bother me, to the point of saying goodbye to the organization, but they would also make fun of me and see me as one more madman.

I wonder if the family has heard about my disappearance, or if the agency decided to keep all the information under strict confidentiality. If I find out, I can perfectly assume the frustration of my father, who warned me so much about the police world. Or also the concern of my mother, who will hardly think I'm dead, but still wish I'd come back soon. Within all this, I can still remember the advice my grandfather used to give me, he always said that a good policeman must know how to read the context and that many times the obvious is also the most mistaken.

I looked around me in search of that context, of that valuable information I needed to have in order to understand everything that had happened. I only saw trees, rocks, flowers and a river that did nothing but reflect my lost face in daylight. There was nothing more to do there, I got up and continued walking, as if it were a walk. The roots were abundant in the soil, they were a bit exotic, despite having gone camping several times in the forest, I did not remember seeing such roots, large and intimately intertwined in the soil. One of those roots almost made me fall, they were really big and extended over a large amount of land.

Suddenly, I came across a strange plant, it was like a giant flower, but only that, it lacked a stem, or leaves to adorn it. I found it strange to see a flower that size and with that morphology, I was absolutely sure I had never seen one like it in any of the natural science documentaries while in high school. The touch, I felt a texture very similar to that of velvet, was not unpleasant, but it was rare. I leaned out to see the inside of the flower and in thousandths of a second something spit in my eyes from the inside, I felt my eyes burning, it was a somewhat viscous pinkish liquid, quite acidic and with a rotten smell.

I quickly took out a handkerchief and wiped my face. My pupils had dilated and by that time my mission had become quite blurred. Apparently I had activated one of the defense mechanisms of this strange plant. It took me a few minutes to completely cleanse my face, and wait for the infernal itching of my eyes to calm down a little. When I wanted to continue walking, I realized that I had been ambushed, because my feet were completely intertwined in those roots.

When I looked at my feet I thought they were snakes, but when I looked closer I realized that they were the same roots I had stepped on a few minutes ago. I had never seen roots of this size move so fast and so strong. I was totally immobilized, as if I were another tree in the forest, planted, receiving sunlight, but without the ability to photosynthesize. I took out my nava and began to cut the roots, inside there was a gray pulp and a little of that pink liquid that I had on my face.

I left that area as soon as possible, I didn't dare to run too fast because my vision wasn't fully recovered yet. I bumped into strange insects, they were all heading in the same direction, and they were carrying the body of some other smaller insect, as if each one of them was taking its part for the realization of a great banquet in the jungle. I had no clear route, so I chose to follow the path of this large number of insects, perhaps they would lead me to a friendlier area and food suitable for a human.

After a minute walking, inevitably the process stepped on and killed some of my fellow travelers, it was inevitable, as there were more and more. We arrived at a rather humid place, in which there was a large amount of honeycomb on the ground, with the peculiarity that they were not yellow and did not have honey either. It was strange to see this type of honeycombs on the ground, they were well anchored with quite a lot of mud, their appearance was white. I looked to see what there was, and I saw how all the insects that had come with me were giving their prey to small green larvae that were inside each of the hexagonal cells.

Apparently they all came with the intention of feeding these little creatures. Little did I understand about this strange symbiosis. When I decided to turn around, I came across a species of spider that completely paralyzed me. It was 1 to 2 meters long, with great flexibility in the legs, as it jumped as easily as a monkey does. Its fangs were in plain sight and its legs had a green tip that looked quite poisonous. There was no doubt that he had escaped from one inhospitable place to another, was not safe, and was not even sure that he had arrived home. Fear consumed me and paralyzed me for a moment, but I still had an enemy in this life, Speculum can't get away with it again, so I ran as fast as I could.

Thank you for reading.
