La expedición fallida

~

–“Mucho gusto, me llamo Daniel.

English Version:

The failed expedition

~

– "It is not easy to see a person after so long and not distrust them, knowing that they live like me in a territory where only the strongest survives, sorry for the blow", said Daniel.

It was the first thing I heard after several minutes, I didn't know exactly what had happened, the memories came to my mind in a fleeting way, for a moment I thought I was at the agency, in one of the routine trainings and that I had had an accident, just at that moment I had to enter the team nurse to examine me, and finally some of my bosses to scold me for having been so clumsy and falling.

Then I remembered, reality fell on me like a big rubble crushing me, a dry blow that made me understand where I was and remember everything that had happened. There I was, looking at me, he was worried, he was a little nervous. I knew perfectly well that I had received a great blow to the head, so strong that I managed to collapse in seconds, with total security it was he, who I never thought to find and who appeared unexpectedly, demonstrating to me, perhaps violently, that I am not the only one who is trapped in this evil island.

–"Nice to meet you, my name is Daniel. Honestly, I never expected a visit here. I have tried to the unimaginable the last few months to get someone's attention out there, but everything has been useless, so useless and frustrating that I was getting used to the idea of loneliness until the end of my days. Are you okay? Or does your head still hurt from the blow?" said Daniel as he offered Joe water in an already worn plastic cup.

– "It still hurts, but I'm already conscious. My name is Joe, I don't have much time around here. I need to know who you are and how you got here. Honestly I wasn't looking for human life to visit and have a glass of water. There are creatures out there waiting for a little movement of ours to devour us to the bones, so it is to be expected that I want to get out of here as soon as possible", Joe said as he tried to get up from the ground.

– "Don't despair, it's worse, I tell you from my own experience, because what you are living, every feeling that passes through you, I already lived it, and I know very well that those impulses of survival can make us make mistakes. I have more time here than you do, and that's more than evident from my physical appearance. I'm a pilot, I was on my way to this island and my plane was stranded here. There was no way to turn it back on, we lost contact or any other type of communication with civilization, and we were trapped", said Daniel as he drank the water left in the glass.

– "Where are we?", Joe asked.

– "We are on a virgin island, located in the Atlantic Ocean, is a fairly large island, discovered relatively recently, and devoid of information. The research we came here to do was going to show the scientific world the local flora and fauna. I'm not sure if anyone else has been here before, or if they know of the existence of these animals, but even if it seems impossible, we are still on planet earth," said Daniel, with a strong willingness to satiate all doubts, and calm spirits.

– "How did you do it?" Joe said.

– "For what?" said Daniel.

– "To survive all this time" Joe said.

– "I don't feel like I survived, I just temporarily adapted. I think every day that starts may be the last, because I'm helpless and very down the food chain, it's been luck maybe", Daniel said.

– "What about the others?" Joe said.

– "The others weren't so lucky. No one was prepared for this. Most of them had spent a large part of their lives in an office, in a laboratory or making a living in the academy, never in a place like this. I think the training I received at the aviation academy helped me a bit, it gave me resistance and a little agility, but as I told you before, I don't consider myself safe," Daniel said as he lowered his gaze and adjusted the strap of his pants. - How did you get here?

At that moment Joe kept a great silence, the words didn't come out of his mouth, his gaze turned to the door and he stuttered a little at the beginning of his answer. He knew that if he told the truth, he was going to be considered a complete madman, and even more so considering that he doesn't understand everything that had happened with certainty.

– "I don't know, this isn't the first blow I've received," Joe said as he pointed to his head - "I'm a policeman, and the last thing I remember is that I was on a very important mission, we were coming in a helicopter towards the Atlantic Ocean, I don't remember anything else. After that I woke up with a big spider surrounding me and about to attack me. I have holes in my memory, I didn't know how to explain it to you and I doubt that you will understand everything", continued Joe – "No matter what the details are at this moment, at least I feel the relief of knowing that I'm not the only one", said Joe.

– "I see you've already met one of my octopod friends, you better get away from them or you end up like a mummy, and then devoured by the queen and her thousands of larvae. I haven't talked for a long time, it feels strange, but I'm also happy for the company", said Daniel.

– "Can I have some water, please?"

The afternoon continued full of doubts and answers, subtle lies and memories. Hope was maintained and the desire to return was imminent...

Thank you for reading.
