A Single Seed: The Power of Awe

I want you to get into a fight after reading this. A fight for your life.

One that you'll probably have to fight everyday for as long as you live.

But one that's worthy of the struggle.

I want you to fight your hedonic adaption.

Life is beautiful. But it takes presence to realize it. Without presence, a bite of delicious food is simply swallowed, smells go unappreciated, and conversations are words with no reflection of the interaction or anything that came before it.

This is a constant struggle. Our brains aren't designed to remember the seemingly mundane things. We don't have enough working memory to constantly be in awe of our present surroundings. But that should be the goal. Imagine if every sunset you saw was the best one you had ever seen. Every conversation was the best talk you had ever had (even if it wasn't). The barista made you the finest latté you've ever sipped in your life. This is how we should approach life. Treating every possible moment as a gift makes everything so much brighter, and makes the days filled with countless highs. It might not ACTUALLY be the best salad you've ever had, but in a way it is. Because it means you're still alive. And that's worth celebrating.

"A Single Seed" is my attempt to get out one idea every day that I've learned or accumulated over the years, with the hope that it may stick in someone else's memory bank as well. The idea may be related to fitness, business, life, or philosophy, but I think you'll find that many can change domains if you wish them to. With each seed planted, a new life awaits.
