Just a quick one to share the news! Fifi gave birth at around 9am this morning. Unfortunately the first kitten was a breech birth and did not survive the journey but the second kitten was born head first and seems strong and healthy.

Fifi is tired but recovering well.

Esteban & Luna watched the whole thing and were completely okay with the first one being stillborn. It was amazing to see how calm they were about this. Perhaps because I explained to them how it goes with nature and the reason why certain animals have more than one baby.

During the birth Fifi found it difficult to stay in one place and moved around the house from room to room, rather confused about what was happening. Once the birthing bit was done it didn't take long for them to relax together.

That's great home education for the kids, definitely not some thing they will see in the classroom. Who's going to name the kitten now?

It was education for both them and me. Having now researched how to best assist with breeched kitten births I will be a better midwife next time! Am kicking myself a bit to be honest, for not doing this research before the birth. But now I know I cannot unknow :)

When I saw the thumbnail I thought: "My, that's one hairy kid!" lol

haha! My little wolf baby ;)

I was actually quite surprised about the hair. Not sure why but I expected freshly born kittens to be pink and mostly hairless?

Always a miracle to see a new life come into this world - great that your kids got to witness it! They got a lesson about life and death - I'm glad they were alright with the first being stillborn.
It brings a smile to my face to see the kids hugging and momma and her new babe!
Thanks for sharing!

Yes, good lessons for all of us. Me included! I will be a better midwife next time.

Luna was being very huggy with her brother during the experience. Which was new! And super lovely to see :) x

Yes, I am super happy about even just one little kitten. This morning he is beginning to open his eyes! So exciting for all of us ;)
