Curator Cat Sunday: Poking Around the Ecency App!

Good Sunday Felines and Hoomans of Hivelandia!

Decided to spend a little time poking around the "ecency" app ( @ecency ) today, just to see what it's about.

Of course, since we don't have reliable mobile service where we live, I ended up just being able to look at "ecency for desktop," which is fine, too. It's good to have alternatives for when something is a little "off" on one of Hive's front ends!

Of course, all of this is just an excuse to post some cat pictures! But you already knew that, I'm sure...

Simple Enough...

Using the site seems simple enough, as I create this post.

You log in with your usual Hive keys, and like other front ends, your "stuff" is already there.

You can save "draft" versions of your post, which is nice... I often don't have time to create all of my post in a single sitting.

The typing input is pretty simple and intuitive, with a typing column side-by-side with a "preview" column. I don't know if that's different on mobile devices, since I am not using one.

Adding tags is not very intuitive. I had to experiment my way to figuring our that you don't separate tags with commas, or pressing the space bar; you have to hit enter to create a tag. That should be written somewhere because "enter" will actually publish your post on some sites.

Points... and Things...

When you use the ecency front end your content not only posts to Hive as usual, but you can also earn "ecency points" for various activities you engage in, while using the app/site.

This ranges from posting, to commenting, to voting to various other things... not sure yet what the points are good for, or if they are tradeable like a crypto token... nor whether accumulating them gives you extra perks... but I guess I'll discover that, in time.

Now I am going to publish this, as the next "leg" in this little experiment!

Thanks for reading, and have a good rest of your weekend!

It's an OK alternative... by no means as fully featured as a PeakD, but I'm told the mobile version is decent.

Though I have Ecency App (previously knows as eSteem Surfer) on my laptop already for some years, but never really used it. Since a few weeks, I changed and use this App much more often. One of the reasons is the fact the Ecency team took the HIVE search engine offline as a stand alone product. In the Web edition as well as the local App, this HIVE search engine is available. Not that I'm searching for HIVE post on a daily bases, I use it reguraly. I love it! None of the other frontends have such feature. Ecency does: SUPER!

Another element of Ecency App I like, is for its notifications. Last weeks I tend to use the reply notifications to read and when I like, to react to them. Somehow the Ecency way feels easier to work with when going through a bunch of comments/replies. But I may be biased a little: I always like local apps more, than web apps. I like to work in an App rather than in a Website.

As far as I know, the Ecency points can not be traded on some exchange. They are good for promoting posts, or requesting a Ecency curation to a selected post. For promotion and curation request, the post muct be published though the Ecency service (web or app). To be honest, I think its good not to be able to trade Ecency points. In this way they become points that we must actively use for the service at hand: Blogging.
