I hate buying cars

So the time has come when our beloved "smelly bus" (as my kids to call it), is about to give up the ghost. The latest in the array of Christmas tree lights lit up on the dashboard last week signifying that I need new brake pads. This was added to the "Service Required" warning ⚠ light, the dodgy boot catch, the persistent fan noise, engine that sometimes decides that it doesn't want to start (at all the wrong times) and the list goes on.

So we've spent the past week mulling over a car to replace the smelly bus.

Now in my defence, the smelly bus derived its name from the fact that this is our designated car to cart the dogs around to and from sandy beaches and for the kids to indulge in scoffing mcdonalds on the back seats etc.

So spending a fortune on a car that was soon to become the next generation smelly bus was out of the question for me.

I am no petrol-head plus I hate the fact that you lose thousands of pounds in value the second you drive off the forecourt - so cars simply don't do it for me. It's not a place where I like to spend my cash.

We really wanted to get with the times and get an electric car or at least a hybrid. But we kept running into the fact that there was a limited choice for the size we needed and they were all pretty new and so...errr...expensive!

So in the end we went for a used landrover. Fingers crossed it works for us. Wish it luck!

I hate cars (but I admit I did grow quite fond of my old smelly bus! L
