Police Confused On How Drug Use Is A Victimless Crime

Kent police authorities are confused as to how personal drug use might constitute a victimless crime.

In a recent news report, they detail the story of a young girl who was held against her will by a gang, being forcibly detained and drugged as well.

"Those who take recreational drugs like cocaine, heroin and cannabis often say theirs is a victimless crime – but this young woman’s story illustrates this is simply not the case. Hers is the human cost of your weekend high.” - Kent Police

Why can't authorities differentiate the different actions that are taking place here.

When an individual sits in a room and personally consumes cannabis, and then when they hold a woman against her will, those are separate actions. It's all too convenient for authorities to paint it all together, but the fact remains that personal drug use doesn't harm anyone but the individual.

Kidnapping is wrong, forcing someone to do drugs against their will is wrong, these are not victimless crimes. They are separate actions and crimes that should be differentiated from drug consumption itself.

Authorities here also want to shame those who create the demand for drugs, because they've given rise to the market which has attracted these individuals to take part, engaging in their vicious criminality who have victimized this woman they tell the story about. But that isn't true for all of those who are serving the drug market in a voluntary fashion. Not all drug dealers are violent people and kidnappers etc. As well, the reason that there is so much violence intertwined with this market is arguably because of the prohibition that surrounds the industry; this increases the violence in many ways.

Prohibition doesn't work, and despite the propaganda drug use is still a victimless crime.

Well illustrated ignorance here. And this ridiculous “Reefer Madness” style propaganda from the people who have been given a monopoly on the use of violence in our society. Is anyone still buying this shi#?

One I can’t believe he said this. Two I can’t believe no other reporter, adult, heck anyone didn’t say “like how can you compare the two”. But people always surprise me!🤦‍♂️

I hear where you coming from and I would have to agree for the most part, unfortunately its not quite a victim less crime if dependants like children are neglected.

if you neglect a child then you neglect a child... the drug use is a separate issue.

Serious addiction mostly drug related can lead directly to child neglect/engagement... thin balance between freedom and safety

I like to get high and thats not really anyones business but mine, but if I got kids I must take care of them first and for most and if my drug use is impeding that than its not a victimless crime my children are being neglected/endangered

If children are endangered BECAUSE OF YOUR BAD PARENTING then it is because of the bad parenting, not because of the cannabis 🙈🙈🙈 there are many people for whom cannabis doesn't negatively impact their parenting and daily operational abilities, stop blaming the object.

why are you having difficulty differentiating between the two? You are smarter than this.... did you know that not having enough sleep can lead to child neglect/engagement... so can being too unloving or too selfish, a myriad of activities and substances can alter our engagement and care that we provide for others... you are NOT KEEPING PEOPLE SAFE BY ADVOCATING THAT VIOLENCE BE INITIATED AGAINST PEACEFUL PEOPLE. It is the exact opposite which you are supporting, you are supporting violence and unjust coercion, on what should be a human right, the right of the individual to consume whatever the heck that they want. We shouldn't be kidnapping people and putting them into cages for victimless crimes. Arresting people and trying to tell people what they should do with their bodies doesn't keep them safe.

Why they seek to twist the truth, and make things causation, instead of mere correlation, is beyond me, aside from the idea they are wanting to push harder on the guilt, and try to make people view the whole as the minority. But, people like those who harmed that woman are not the same as those who recreationally use cannabis, or other drugs, while some drugs may cause violent tendencies in people, that would only be anecdotal evidence, and use of it would be an appeal to emotion.

Prohibition, just as any other form of law that bans human action, creates the opposite effect, and we see it all over the globe. From drug use, to making people repress their urges, they all cause people to grow desire for it, and in some cases, that create a need to have it, even if that means hurting other people, but those who do cause harm are still not your average individual.
