I am looking forward to seeing your butterflies and other insects!

Here are my photos for today of the American Lady Butterfly.

The American Lady looks very much like the Painted Lady and a good way to tell them apart is by looking at their eyespots on their hindwings. The American Lady has 2 large ones and the Painted lady has 4 small ones.

Eyespots on all butterflies is a way to confuse predators. They think that the eyespots are their head so their predators will attack the wings instead, and the butterfly survives.

When the wings of the American Lady are open, it looks like a different butterfly.

This medium size butterfly has a wing span of approximately 1 3/4 inches - 2 5/8 inches.

You know how happy I am when I can capture my subject's face. Yay!

Here you can clearly see the proboscis.

The End!

All photos are my own.
