Butterflyday & Insectpub Challenge "Inspecting the Cicada" by Sunscape

Last summer we had a rather large amount of Cicada's appear from their 13 year-long cycles. My grandson was so thrilled that he got the magnifying glass to get a closer look. He said, it must have been from the Jurassic era and I thought that was so cute. Below are a few close-up photos. The second one I posted on Appics earlier this week. Have a great day everyone.

Oh what lovely photography, definitely not one I have seen up close like this.

With all our recent rain I heard them late afternoon the other day, at night the crickets are banging out the tune.

Thanks for sharing this interesting insect @sunscape

Hi Joan, it sure is an interesting creature. My grandson loves finding them and their casings every year.

You know, there's a whole season for these things every 17 years where I'm from, and there are so many of them it is insane -- there's just seas of molts left all over the place.

Interesting bugs, weird lifecycle

That is so cool, we see them here too and the casings are everywhere. They seemed to like buroughing under my Black Locust tree.
