Butterfly Day - Red Spotted Purple Butterfly

Here's a red spotted purple butterfly for this #butterflyday by @whatisnew

You can see the tiny red spots near the edges of its wings.

Here it is feeding off a yellow flower.

I also found a nest of yellow jackets tending to their young.

Meanwhile in downtown chicago the monarchs are still hatching. I just found this one today next to its empty chrysalis.

Here's another chrysalis getting ready to hatch.

The Trump building planters just got swarmed by these tussock moth caterpillars, they were crawling around everywhere.

Here's a bee feeding on purple flowers overlooking the Chicago river with the water taxi in the background.

Here's another orb weaver overlooking the river. Happy #butterflyday

This has been a good year for insects. I hope the big yellow and black orb weavers come out this year.

A great year for avid photographers @sketch.and.jam We have golden orb weavers in Australia and I have to call on every ounce of bravery within me to get close enough to get a decent photo of them. 😄

Again you have shown us beautiful selection of bugs. The red spotted purple butterfly looks like made of velvet.

What a treat to see all of these beauties, except for the orb weaver. Yikes!
I love the color of the red spotted purple. And more fresh Monarchs and chrysalis. It is great to hear that there so many Monarchs where you live. I would have freaked out, in a good way, if I saw a bunch of those tussock moth caterpillars. And the nest of yellow jackets tending their young?!?! OMG! Incredible! Your photos are beautiful and belong in a magazine. I am soooooo happy that you shared these photos. You made my day! Thanks @sketch.and.jam! : )
