Monthly Fitness Update (Jan 2020)

Not too surprising these days to see a month go by without realizing it. It becomes like a routine as life remains busy which makes the achievements that I am able to get done more special despite not being optimal. January is typically the busiest time of year for me given some of the deliverables that are due in my career. Therefore, it is always a tough adjustment to make changes as the new year kicks in but I always enjoy hard resets to monitor and track against.

I continue to find the dietary part of my approach the most difficult to be consistent with. Given the timing of my changes and my busy workload, trying to organize food accordingly and on a timely basis is tough. However, I have accepted that it is impossible to remain perfect and have purposefully provided some flexibility when measuring my progress.

My main focus is to remain on a low carb diet for every day of the month but allowing some flexibility with at least one day of some indulging. While I feel horrible afterwards, it is something to look forward to on a monthly basis. My hope is to reconsider the amount of which I indulge as I see progress in my weight which could be impacted by doing too much. I am also getting back on some Intermittent Fasting during weekdays but not on weekends. It may take time to adjust to but I think adding this flexibility will help my longer term goal as a lifestyle change rather than just a diet.

Fortunately, I have continued to prioritize time for daily workouts and activity despite the challenges of a busy schedule. While they are not as intense as workouts I would normally do with more time, it provides the burn I need to maintain a good weight in the meantime. What has helped to accomplish this is the fact that I am waking up early every weekday for some time walking on the treadmill. This not only helps in getting my body ready and active for the day but it also gives me a good early start to the office which helps with my daily checklists that I manage.

Starting with an early workout also gives me the option to be more flexible later in the day with activity as I can go for another walk when the weather is enjoyable or get to the gym for a short session with weights. Only one week this month was I not able to get as many days in with more than one workout which is great as the body needs some rest as well. I am trying to not put too much pressure on myself this time around so that the changes can remain sustainable over the longer term.

While my engagement around the ecosystem remains challenged, I continue to make the effort on a daily basis to post my activity on @actifit. Despite the daily downvotes I get for it, the fact that something I am striving to achieve can be entangled with the Steem ecosystem is great. The more I can entangle my life with the social experience, the easier it becomes for it to be a routine like @actifit has become. I often find myself with a couple of hundred steps below my daily goal of 10k and while I may already be in bed and ready to sleep, I will most times make the extra effort to get above that. The post becomes a part of my accountability to achieving this goal for the long term. The same goes for these monthly updates as it monitors my progress or challenges to help keep me on track!

The year is flying by right? It is for me anyway. It seems the closer to 50 I get the faster times old older than I was before. Lol.
