It's Finally Here!

This week my family and I took delivery of our new Tesla Model 3. The timing could not be better as it was the day we were celebrating a number of family milestones so it allowed us to use it well for the first time and we really enjoyed it. The experience of acquiring the car has been so unique from beginning to taking delivery that it is worth sharing as it demonstrates how the Company has disrupted the industry in many ways.

Since ordering it online while at the showroom, the Company has continued to communicate via email on an automated basis. The simplicity was amazing as they would guide you along the way of when each item was required. For example, uploading proof of insurance was very easy. When the delivery timeframe was available, I got a text message to logon so that I can choose an appointment date at my convenience. Also, when the contract and disclosure documents were ready, an email reminded me to logon and complete an electronic signature to streamline the delivery process further. By the time we were taking delivery, only the State registration process required paper or any formal signature.

In all, we were at the delivery site for about 30 minutes as we inspected the Tesla and asked a couple of questions about its features. I love adding accessories to my cars as it feels like great ways to personalize them to one’s liking. I know that I probably went overboard with my truck earlier this year but it is a great experience to enjoy your car and knowing that we can add our styles to them. Tesla also provides some really nice accessories so we saw a couple before we left. However, we only purchase some of the utility ones like the 240 volt adapter to help charge the car faster at home since we had installed the plug in our garage.

As we prepared to drive back home, a couple of features immediately caught our attention. The keys to the car are actually cards similar to credit cards. They are able to be paired to our mobile phones which we immediately did which adds plenty of flexibility and ease of use. However, it also leads to many things we need to get used to with this car. The car opens and turns on automatically once you press the handle to open. However, you can also remotely turn it on to use climate control in preparation for the journey. One thing I am still not sure about is if it auto locks once it is closed as having the key on me always opens it. Therefore, we always close it with the app just in case.

Having driven regular cars for so many years, I can easily tell when a car is on as the motor can be easily heard. However, with electric cars like Tesla, the motor really makes no sound but since it turns on as soon as the car is unlocked, changing gears and going is just as easy. Another default setting that I recently learned can be changed is that the car does not move until the gas (don’t know what to call it now) pedal is pressed. It is pretty weird as I have always been used to releasing the brake for the car to move forward. This could be changed with the “creep” mode as I recently learned. Related to this experience is that the brakes are hardly used on the Tesla as the car decelerates very quickly when releasing the pedal. This is one of the reasons why they say that the Tesla is much cheaper to maintain with these features.

There has been a number of features that we continue to learn about each day. It feels as thought there are so many things we still don’t know but am looking forward to discovering every day. We are taking the Thanksgiving week off and heading for a road trip so the whole range and charging aspect will be interesting to experience and learn about. I am looking forward to learned more of these features next week and I look forward to sharing them here as well!

One day.

Sounds like great experience. Do you like tha acceleration?

BTW, "accelerator" is what we cultured English speakers call the gas. :P

The acceleration is awesome! Reminds me of the days I had a Mercedes two-seater but even better! Looking for the Road Trip later today. More to come!

Have fun with it. Is it self-driving? That'll be weird I think!

Will be keen to know how it goes over the next few weeks, how it's working out from the fuel saving perspective.

Congratulations on the new car, @newageinv!

How are you enjoying that new car smell? I hope to read your adventures with it soon :-)

It must be something about electric vehicles as it really does not have that new car smell; it is more neutral.
