Giving @dlike a Spin

I have continued to expand my experiments around the ecosystem as many projects continue to develop and find creative ways to engagement and build communities within the possibilities of the Steem protocol. I have always taken a slow approach to trying new project and Dapps as most require authorizations with my keys to use which is always intimidating given the possibilities having that access. However, I have taken the approach to watch the trends of the community and proceed with those that have great potential and seems to have trustworthy members supporting them.

This logic brought me to consider @dlike a couple of months ago. I have always appreciated the approach that the team had made available to the community as sharing news and articles with limited commentary is sometimes more valuable than the opinions of those sharing or summarizing the news. While media and journalism continues to be criticized for how they support claims and news, I believe we each must draw our own conclusion from what we read. However, having access to the news is an important factor which is why I am a happy content consumer of the @dlike community.

As tokenized communities have continued to spread, the @dlike team also decided to join the like of other projects and start the development and distribution of their token without waiting the alternatives of the Smart Media Token (SMT) protocol on Steem. As they launched their token, I thought it would be a good opportunity to support the project as I see the potential for this type of content over time given how there is always demand. One of the first alternatives the team provided was to distribute token via engagement on their platform which helped increase the amount of content being produced. However, it was the delegation offer that made me finally got involved. In addition to distributing some return on our delegations, the team also started to distribute their token as well.

As months past, I really did not have the time to really try out the platform given my travels and limited time. However, the development team aggressively continue to deploy changes and features that caught my interest as they started to offer benefits for using the token as well. First, in order to reward token holders, they offered a staking option that allow tokenholders to accumulate more over time. You can get a 9% bonus for staking 90 days and a 25% bonus for staking 180 days! While the tokens remained locked during this time, it is a great way to accelerate the stack of tokens we accumulate. Since I am a holder of most tokens (more like hoarder), I decide to stake some for 180 days. I was pleasantly surprised to see that through my delegation I was able to accumulate a fair amount of token through this date!

The team also offered a Pro membership in exchange for 10k tokens. This allows users to engage more frequently on the platform and maximize rewards from posts and curation efforts. It also allows for a new feature they implemented which is to provide tips to community members! Not only can you send tips but will also share in them as they are provided. This is pretty cool as they have integrated USDT via an Ethereum wallet to enable these tips. Although I have not gotten into many of these details, I have burned these 10k tokens in order to give it a try as I continue to find different ways to engage across the ecosystem. I think the ability to use tokens like this ultimately helps create value as an economic incentive then exists for burning tokens which reduce supply.

I am still learning my way around the community there but am encouraged that so far my content has not been segmented out when compared with others. It reminds me the greatness of the Steem protocol which allows us to use multiple front-ends to deploy and engage content. Given how busy I have been, I have appreciated the ability to take a day and share an article that has gotten my interest and sharing it with the community with some thoughts of my own to add. I look forward to continuing the process and searching ways to foster growth and engagement by leveraging the capabilities we have in this great protocol.
