Wednesday Walk: taking Steemit friends to see swooping birds! พาเพื่อนชาวสตีมอิทไปดูนกบินว่อนริมทะเล

This is my entry for #wednesdaywalk hosted by @tattoodjay. This was the last trip out of Bangkok before my Steemit friends had to take the flight back to Finland.

@gamer00 and @daabi2006: Bird watching at Bang Poo.

Since my Steemit friends did not have the time to go to the beach, I took them to the nearest bird watching spot by the sea to see the migratory birds at Bang Poo in Samut Prakarn, (an industrialised town outside Bangkok). Bang Poo is small recreation resort managed by the military with a retro restaurant (called Sukjai meaning happy heart) at the end of the Sukta (happy eyes) Bridge. The Sukjai bridge was constructed in 1937, then the restaurant building was added later. This was a very fashionable place during the 1970s; they still have ball room dancing on Saturday afternoon until these days. It was such a long time ago that I saw beautifully dressed people glided in a circle to the rhythm of live band music. How I miss the good old days of family outings every weekend!

That’s the old Sukjai building protruding into the muddy sea. The above crab statue represents Bang Poo as this place means lots of crabs. There are many nice seafood restaurants dotted along the coast with several small hotels. Inside Bang Poo, one could stay at the military owned bangalows at very cheap price, but the facilities are rather old. This visit brought back several fond memories of my childhood which really made me miss my father a lot. He used to bring his children to all the best and famous restaurants in Bangkok.

As soon as we embarked onto the bridge, we saw this lady walking her beighbour’s dogs in a pram. It’s becoming fashionable to walk around big shopping malls with small dogs or Persian cats in prams. But these dogs got the seaside walk! There’s another man with an over weight pit bull dog but I was not fast enough to get the photos. I was more concerned with the sunset, whether we would have a dramatic golden sunset. Alas, it’s a silvery grey with pinkish and faint orange sunset which turned out to be very subtle with infinite horizon. This was all too nostalgic and melancholy for me so I had to turn my attention to those swooping gulls.

The long bridge was dotted with people taking photos among friends and families, some bought birds food to throw into the air so that they could take photos of the gulls coming in for the food pellets. These birds were flying fast in all directions so I just pointed my iPhone and snapped away hoping for the best. These birds refused to stay still for me, they were disappointed that I did not have any birds food for them, so they scolded me quite a bit!

Unfortunately, @daabi2006 forgot to recharge his camera battery and his phone memory was full, so he could not take any photos! But he had a very good collections of snakes photos and nice zoomed photos which I could never have with my iPhone! @gamer00 got very sharp eyes as he seemed to spot the Ibis standing on bamboo poles; you’ve got to look at his posts and photos. I was trying to learn from him while he was choosing the lenses and changing the settings. But I could not recall what I had learned today, (due to lack of sleep!).

According to some birdwatching sources, there are almost two hundreds species of migratory birds at Bang Poo from November to April each year. The old estimate said there were about 5,000 birds taking refuge on trees and in the mangrove. Source. These are some of the visiting birds: Brown headed Gulls, Black headed Gulls, Slender-billed Gulls, Little Gulls, Mew Gulls, Sooty Gulls. Terns and waders are seen on the mudflats: Grey -tailed Tatters and Asian Dowitcher; Glossy Ibis, Christmas Island Frigate bird and Collared Kingfisher and lots more! I would definitely need a good camera with nice zoom lenses!

วันสุดท้ายที่เพื่อนของเราจะอยู่เที่ยวที่เมืองไทย เราตัดสินใจพาเขาไปเที่ยวชมทะเลที่บางปู เพราะเขาไม่มีเวลาไปสัมผัสทะเลที่สวยงามของไทยเลย อย่างน้อยไปเดินดูนกนางนวล และถ่ายรูปนกกับทะเลในเวลาใกล้พระอาทิตย์ตก ก็น่าจะดีไม่น้อยเหมือนกัน. เราเองก็ไม่ได้ไปบางปูนานนับสิบปี เราเคยไปที่นั่นสมัยเด็กๆ ไปเที่ยวกินอาหารทะเลกันทั้งครอบครัว ช่างน่าสนุกมาก น่าจะไปหวนระลึกถึงความหลังสมัยเด็กบ้าง แตาพอไปถึงจริงๆเรากลับรู้สึกเศร้าใจ ที่ทุกอย่างเปลี่ยนไปอย่างไม่มีทางหวนกลับคืน เราก็รีบเบนความสนใจไปถ่ายรูปนกนางนวลมากมายแทน

พอเดินเข้ามาที่สะพานสุขตาก็เจอ คนพาสุนัขมาเดินเล่น สองตัวนี้ดูว่าง่ายมากและติดคนเลี้ยงมากด้วย เราก็พากันเดินดูฝูงนกที่บินโฉบไปมากันไม่หยุด มีคนซื้ออาหารนกแล้ว โยนขึ้นไปในอากาศ นกนางนวลก็บินมาโฉบไป. บรรยากาศตอนเย็นดีมาก พระอาทิตย์ใกล้ตก ทะเลเป็นสีเงิน สะท้อนสีส้มอมชมพูของแสงอาทิตย์ที่หลบอยู่หลังเมฆ. เราถ่ายรูปแบบซุ่มเอา ไม่ได้มองกล้องเลย. แล้วค่อยมาเลือกรูปภายหลัง. เพราะนกบินเร็วมาก ไม่มีการหยุดนิ่งให้เราจัดมุมกล้องได้เลย จึงต้องถ่ายรูปแบบหลับหูหลับตา ใช้สัญชาตญาณแทนการตั้งใจโฟกัส

ที่บางปูมีนกหนีความหนาวมาพักประมาณ 5,000 ตัวในแต่ละปี และมีนกทั้งหมดเกือบ 200 ชนิด มาตั้งแต่เดือน พฤศจิกายนถึงเดือนเมษายนทุกปี เราเองก็แปลกใจที่มีนกย้ายถิ่นมาพำนักที่ป่าชายเลนที่บางปูมากมายขนาดนี้ โชคดีที่ระบบนิเวศน์ที่นั่นยังดีอยู่จึงสามารถมีอาหารประทังชีวิตนกหลายเดือนทีเดียว เพื่อนของเราก็แปลกใจที่คนไทยตื่นเต้นกับนกนางนวล ที่บ้านเขาไม่มีใครทำแบบคนบ้านเรากันเลย นึกแล้วก็ขำ คนเราตื่นเต้นกับนกอพยพ และยังทำให้นกพวกนี้เชื่องอีกด้วย ทำให้กับคนสามารถแลกเปลี่ยนผลประโยชน์กันได้ นกได้อาหารจากนักท่องเที่ยว ส่วนนักท่องเที่ยวได้ถ่ายรูปใกล้ชิดกับนกนางนวลมาก
