Bozzlife: Retro Gaming in a Modern Browser

Once upon a time, there was no such thing as smartphones, MMORPG's, or even computers for that matter. Consoles have always been around and the earliest one I can really remember playing was the Atari.

I spent countless hours playing my favorite games on that thing. Eventually, home computers became more popular as did the need to play games on them. The earliest games I remember were simple BASIC programs we copied from a magazine on our Texas Insturments machine.

From there computers became more powerful and DOS was born as well as floppy drives. I remember playing a game called "Mission Mix Up" or something like that on the Apple computers at school as well as some Math game that had a magic rabbit.

On the home front we were a strictly PC household and that meant running games on MS-DOS and later Windows 3 - 3.1. I have font memories of playing classic titles like "Test Drive" and "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego".

You better believe I was super excited when I heard that Archive.org had added a huge library of MS DOS games to their collection. These games are fully playable via your browser and there are literally hundreds of titles to choose from.

Some of the games can take a while to download the necessary files and obviously I have not tried out all of them to guarantee they work, but you should definitely check out the site.

If you were around during this time, you will no doubt find a game or two that will suck you in and allow you to revel in some EGA/VGA gaming glory.

Having been in the Navy and served in Viet Nam, my dad was really into military simulations when I was a kid. Some of them that I really remember vividly were "Gunboat", "Gato", and "Silent Service II". I was really excited to see that all of those titles are available to play online.

Like I said, if you were alive during this early infancy of PC gaming, you should totally go check out the site and see if you can find a game to take you down memory lane. If you weren't alive and you just want to see what things were like "back in the day", feel free to jump over and check out the library.

Besides the MS DOS games the site actually has a huge library of software including other early PC games that are a little more up to date. I could literally spend days poking around the sites and reminiscing over the many games that are available here.

Here is a direct link to the MS DOS library and all screen shots for this post were taken from that page.

Don't forget the #steemace tag, though I'm kind of losing confidence in the tribes lately. Only Leo seems to be keeping any decent ground with the price of the token increasing.
