Book Review - One Good Deed

Hi Friends,

I recently finished a book (audiobook in this case) and wanted to share some about it - One Good Deed by David Baldacci.

Baldacci is one of the top tier novelists of our day and has brought a new character to a new series with this book - an former Army veteran named Archer. The book goes into the background on this new character, which gave me vibes of Lee Child's Jack Reacher, as Archer is strong, good looking, a drifter, etc.

The book takes place in the late 1940s after the World War, and Archer is coming out of a stint in prison (did he actually commit the crime he served for??) and finds himself in a new city where he is stuck at due to his parole requirements. He quickly finds a lucrative job with one of the city's most influential individuals, but then gets entangled in a family affair fraught with multiple murders, of which Archer is also a suspect. Archer ends up working with the detective on the case to solve the murders and clear his name, all while juggling the love of two local women.

The story was entertaining and had enough twists to make it unique and intriguing enough to be a fast read. While I am not absolutely smitten with the new character, it was a decent start to the series - much better than the Atlee Pine start by Baldacci, in my opinion.

I give this book a 4 out of 5 and will continue on to the next book in the series soon.

Thanks for coming by,
Brian
