Random Ramblings Of A Nutjob...

(Edited)

Fear of failure seems to have taken over again and prevents me from getting things done. I'm fully aware of the irrationality of this emotion... which makes it even harder to deal with it.

I've been struggling for a couple of weeks now. I have dozens of drafts, but can't seem to finish anything. And when I do finish something, I don't think it's good enough to publish it. Heck, I'll be surprised to see whether I do manage to finish this one. Even more surprised if it will ever see the light of day.

This is for sure not the first time I let fear of failure get the best of me... and unfortunately, it will probably not be the last time. But maybe it helps to write about it. It helped before....

It's just.... I don't know... I don't even know how to word it properly.

Jack Of No Trades

This last week, I've been actively following up on the new posts that are being published every day. To be honest, there's not a lot to see during European day time. All the action happens when I'm asleep.

Still, it seems there's a new pattern. (Which probably only exists in my head.) Either posts are really low-effort (the number of, for example, Dlike posts I see is huge), or they're really, really good.

I realize I'm by far not good enough to come even close to writing such a high-quality post.
You see... I'm not particularly good at anything. I know a little about a lot, but that's about it. On top of that, I'm not the best writer. Not the worst, either, I know that. But still...

I feel really intimidated by all those top notch posts I come across. So much, that I'm having a hard time convincing myself it is worth it to publish something I wrote.

I guess you're always your own worst critic, right?

Time For Action

But then again, he who does nothing can't do anything wrong - but doesn't get any further either.

So it's about time I pick myself up, and stop comparing myself to other people. No good has ever come from that. Believe me, I've got plenty of experience :0/

I hope that by publishing these ramblings, I will be able to break through that wall I've built in these last couple of weeks. And if not... at least I've tried...

Sweet friend, I read a lot of quality posts .... from you! And they are all really good researched and very informative! And you are a helper ! So it’s the BLOCK not the blockchain but the writers BLOCK it’s a brain dragon that makes you insecure but whatever you do don’t stop being you, you give value and with your knowledge we all do better. So better days will come and drafts will be finished. And remember you got friends here !
Take care
Blog to you soon

Thanks, @brittandjosie

It's true. The frustrating thing is that one thing fuels the other and it's a vicious circle.
That's why in the end I decided to push that 'publish' button - even though I do not like what I've written at all. But one has to start somewhere, right?!

Maybe compliments like yours will remind me that I need to stop overthinking it. (Overthinking... the story of my life, lol)

I can definitely relate, my posts range from crap to ok, with an occasional good one (maybe once a week). The best I can come up with often is to just make them personal. I usually try always ad opinions in, so at least if the post isn't great, at least some may find it relateable (if thats a word?), as I did with this one.

Thanks for the reply, @jk6276.

I still think that is one of the strengths of this community. It's often enough just to discover that you're not the only one dealing with stuff... that you're not the odd man out...

I've written a lot of posts, and most of the time, I'm trying to stay away from making them personal, in whatever way. Sometimes, I can't help it, though :0)
And to be honest, the couple I have, always got a good number of responses. I should remember that...

Since HF21 killed upvoting comments, I'm trying out something else to show my appreciation ;0)

Good job on actually publishing this post. Hopefully it's the catalyst to you completing and publishing more of the drafts that you started. It's a struggle we all go through from time to time, but you're going to be just fine. Congrats on taking the first step!

I'm the same, good at lots of things. I wish I could write a good post every day as I see some doing but I can never seem to write something that's good even though every day I try...

Publishing "these ramblings" may just be the ticket for you to break out of whatever it is that presently seems to be hindering your creative juices @simplymike ... There certainly is nothing wrong with what you have been posting; and, I might add...considerably better in interest and structure than MOST of what I stumble across on this blockchain and elsewhere :>)

Working through our insecurities and less than adequate self-esteem issues at times through self-examination, reaching out to others, or simply just writing about it to see our thinking on paper/online can be greatly beneficial.

By the way...I actually logged in just to up-vote this fine post, and leave a comment. SEE...!?!?!? You're doing FINE...IMO

What angryman said.. Seriously, don't fret, you're absolutely your own worst critic and you should not over think these things.. I implore you to just enjoy sharing whatever comes to mind, anything that I find that is honest and and devoid of ulterior motives is a pleasure to read in my book..

Thanks, @angryman.

Your reply really made me smile :0)

It has been beneficial to write down all this indeed. Not so much for the create process (yet), but definitely for the self-esteem..

99% of what you're facing right now is in your head. The moment you stop thinking and start doing, those worries disappear but inaction is the beginning of a downward spiral.

Comparing yourself to others is not a valuable use of your time so if you start feeling like you're comparing yourself to others, stop. What's really going on here?

You write great posts, better than a lot of the dross out there. Everyone has their own style, you have your own. It's a skill that can be learned to stop yourself from going down the rabbit hole but I think the key thing for you right now would be....

FOCUS

Pick no more than 3 things to focus on that you like. Alternatively, use the good old 80/20 rule to see what things you do get the most results.

I have gone through a big tidy up recently on my phone and Discord, trimming the fat so to speak. I'd recommend you look at how you spend your time and if it's productive for you.

Now I have done a massive trim, I actually feel a lot freer inside, I'm not scattered about the place on multiple platforms like I was before but I choose 5 that I am mostly active on. That helps.

So anyway, take from that what you will, but take care of yourself and instead of comparing yourself to others and feeling down, look at what you like about that particular post someone wrote and draw inspiration from it to apply to your own.

See you around Trance Head 😉

Thanks, @nickyhavey.

The moment you stop thinking and start doing...

Still need to find that button to turn off the thinking part :0)

I really should take some time to do the same 'fall-cleaning'. Throw out all the Discord channels I never use. Clear my head. Maybe I'll make that my goal for today...

Let me know how you get on because I did it last week and it feels FANTASTIC! Less stress actually. Amazing how steem took over my life the last few months but having less to focus on is a great move - hope you find it!

Haven't gotten to it 😭
I'm actually only active in 3 Discord servers.... I use the rest only for link dropping. Ssst! Don't tell anyone 😉
Spending most of my time on Steemmonsters... then feel bad afterwards because I neglected Steempeak again.
So I thought I'd start the day replying to the truckload of comments that was waiting for me. I will feel a lot better tonight

Haha so you're a link dropper too 😂 yea that's one of the reasons I left the many I was in because I didn't feel I was contributing just by dropping links. Only active in 3 for the most part.

I never played on steem monsters so don't know what it entails! Hope you feel better tonight!
