My three favourite posts on Hive

I've been on Hive for 36 moons, 3 years in August.

Here's how my account growth looks according to @miniature-tiger's most excellent account growth tracking tool.

That tool was a product of the recent hackathon organised by @themarkymark, I suggest you check out some of the entries here, and this post is a response to his recent 'three best posts' article.

NB - the two things are related if you ask me: I could really use a tool that helps me easily find my old posts, sorted by tag, and/ or ranked by engagement/ reward - rather than having to scroll through the whole back catalogue.

Anyway, my three favourite posts, in no particular order.....

Why you should cycle to work and give up the car

This was one of my favourite things I've ever written - I love taking the mundane apsects of life, such as how we travel on a daily basis, and subjecting our habits to some long-term financial analysis. Here I compared the cost of travelling to work by bike, compared to the car, turns out the bike wins! This was also my first post which got a very large @curie vote, which was very exciting at the time!

10 reasons I've quite teaching

If you know me, you'd probably guessed this would be in here. This is my analysis of why I had to quite teaching, almost two years ago now. My Hive earnings at the time were a part of my decision, then they tanked, along with a lot of my other income, but I'm doing OK now, and that was still the right decision.

My early retirement calculator - revealing the shocking opportunity cost of trivial expenditures

This is about how much your daily cappuccino or pint would cost you over the course of a 40 year working life. It includes a link to a handy calculator that allows you to change the variables and see how many years of work at your current wage it would cost you to fund your expenditure habits!

It's only a Google spreadsheet, if I had the skills I'd make a better front end!

Final thoughts

It's a pertinent moment to look back over one's history on Hive (I won't name that other), with a historical possible crime about to be committed over on the other chain.

I'd just like to thank those responsible for moving us over so we've got a secure home and I really hope Justin isn't stupid enough to steal those funds. At time of writing this, there's still time for him to see sense. Hopefully he will!

I've been looking for a way to track my old posts as well. As for Justin Sun I think too much water has passed under the bridge and Justin sun will finally capitulate and steemit and steem might just be history in a month time

I would really wish that this would happen but I think you are asking for something impssible unfortunately.

You're probably right, and yes it is unfortunate, very unfortunate!

Your post struck a chord in me at a time when I am feeling pensive regarding many things, the familiar name, the idea of strolling down memory lane of old posts at a slightly melancholic time regarding our platforms origins seemed synchronistic. I felt obliged to share some thoughts. I am writing this preface ((if you will)) after writing the following comment as I felt a slight tinge of embarrassment upon completion. I'm not sure why, people are strange, right?

That's quite some time at the keyboard Karl and you have penned many an interesting, oft provocative, other times quirky missive giving us great cause to ponder matters from a perspective we may never have previously considered. My question is this...

How did you narrow down to three favourites???

I would wager that if I had your body of posts to choose from my beard would be twice the length of yours before I finished!!!

I particularly enjoyed the exposé regarding the antiquated education system here in Blighty, a system that is decades out of date and long since obsolete with regard to making sense of the world from an educational standpoint for those at an impressionable age with a head chock-full of questions.

It's a little like trying to explain the utility of the internet with a betamax video-tape!

But I digress, I just wanted to take a moment to say that you add to the community narrative in a tangible way which if it were not present would leave us lacking something that I dare not try and quantify.

I am not going to sully the sentiment here by saying too much about current circumstances lest to add that I too hold an optimistic thread as tightly as I feel able, I realise I might be naive and more than a little nostalgically biased but who knows, huh?

Kudos on still being around to add to the narrative of an incredibly diverse global community, it is appreciated. Yup I know it may not always feel that way when people are shouting things that are designed to sting and joining polarised trenches on every bone of contention but I have always considered you to act with authenticity and from a place of honesty.

Take great care of you and yours from me and mine, hope we cross paths many more times in the coming years.

Now that's what I call engagement,

Thanks so much for the lovely comment, it is my internet home here and I typically enjoy writing stuff on here, and most of the drama!

I believe that under Boris's rules you just caused a breach by admitting spending time at your second home! Enjoyment huh? What a revolutionary concept, the idea that a community, this community can have a facet other than huge potential financial rewards. I do hope that message isn't too avant-garde to spread far enough to have a sizable impact.

Oops! I hope I didn't allow my facetiousness mask to slip for a second back there, lol.

Take great care Karl and long may the enjoyment continue :)
