The end to the five month summer vacation and back to school (part-time)

It's almost time for back to school. Across the nation, at least here in America, each district is allowed to determine their school schedule. (who goes when and for how long) where I live.
Our school has chosen a half on/half off schedule where he goes to school a few days a week and learns from home the other days. This is not the best of situations but given the limited time, the district had in planning it's the best we can hope for.

Our school's goal is to have full classes again as soon as is safe enough. Whether that will be this year or not we don't know. I've heard some parents have decided to pull their children from public school to private school for this reason. The private schools and running full classes and many of the parents simply have to work and can't stay home. daycares are very expensive and often full. I am lucky to have parents nearby who are willing to watch my son during the days he if home from school.

not that my son would mind not going to school. He had some bully problems last year and that was a major concern of his going into school this year. We met his teacher last night, saw his classroom and talked a bit about the upcoming year. lucky the bully kids and not in his class and his teacher assured him that he can always talk to her if needed during the day.

Meeting his teacher also helped ease some concerns we had about distance learning. We have some answers now where we had none before. Giving the task set before them I think the school district did a good job getting this together, they even admit that mistakes will be made because this is a new situation for everyone.

I don't mind helping out with some homeschooling. From an early age, my parents and I worked with my son on reading, math problems, and spelling. That's all good but what I really love is answering questions he has. This usually starts with why? (something I think adults need to ask more) and ends with me explaining things that schools generally don't teach. I don't like to entirely rely on the school to educate my son. As a parent, it's important that I also teach him ways of life to the best of my abilities.
