Don’t forget to watch my new comedy video

I just took my first stab at being funny on camera. Being a jokester has always been something that I am very familiar with. When it comes to capturing that moment inside of a video, I am brand new to the scene.

Is this shit funny or nah?

I spent around 30 minutes recording ideas that came to me in the moment, there was no writing. I began experimenting with my Pivo pod and remote. I was just letting random ideas come to my mind as I saw things around the room. Harry Potter movies, my djembe drum, you name it. They were what allowed me to birth this video.

After I had my initial recordings I airdropped them all from my iPhone XS to my MacBook Pro and got to work with iMovie. As this was a new style of video, I wanted to try many new things with a software that some would say is limited. Ideas seemed to come to me at the ideal moment.

Intro

I jumped right into the intro. I had recorded several versions of myself laughing in different ways. I had those clips play quickly in succession while all having different filters to change the style up. I also progressively sped up each clip one after the other (1.25x, 1.5x, 1.75x). The final part of the intro was me walking towards the camera welcoming the audience while four different filters flashed very quickly. Then there was me enticing everyone to have a laugh with me in a super deep voice. I felt as though this intro packed a speedy punch.

Jokes

The actual jokes were immediately next. I swiftly went from one idea to another. The Pivo app setting I chose to use only allowed for 5 seconds for each clip with a 5 second pause in between each. In other words, my setup and execution had to be very smooth. There is no pausing and rambling, I’m not here to waste people’s time. I’m here to give them some humor in an orderly fashion. I did however add ken burns to give the camera pan effect without actually having someone to control the camera.

Outro

This is quite possibly my favorite part from an editors perspective. I played the intro backwards, then made the last clip in the outro loop a few times until the beat of the song dropped. This time I played all clips at 2x speed. I also ended the video with a “Follow me on Steem” image that I designed.

Music

On top of all of this, I decided to fade in/out one of my current favorite EDM tracks by Monxx. The song is called “Vibez” off the brand new WONKAHOLIC EP.

Future Videos

I plan to develop my ideas more before filming, possibly writing some jokes or scenes. It would be great to have memorable outfits for each character I voice and act out. I wish to continue the burst video style were there is no down time. Perhaps better equipment or collaborations can come into play as well.

You're kinda funny, and I say that honestly, not tongue in cheek. If I had a constructive criticism, it'd be that I think you could share more of your wit, if you tell stories with punchlines and humor; sometimes comedy in this style can be slapstick, which is fine for particular audiences but I know you wouldn't try something like this if you were only concerned short term. I think over time, people like me could share you with friends if you had something to share, rather than a series of 'bits'. That said, I think you should keep it up, and I'm actually quite impressed to find another honest creative seeking feedback here. I take photos myself, and have spent a lot of time 'shouting' into what can be a void at times, but the atmosphere here is changing. Don't get discouraged from a lack of human response, we are watching, even if we don't respond. I, for one, am looking forward to more.

I appreciate that a lot.
I like to think of this first video as a glimpse of the beginning of what is possible from me being letting loose on camera.
I think you may be very surprised/pleased with one of my upcoming videos. It’s a collaboration with my best friend & there is actually a lot to it. Despite it only being less than 2 minutes long. It’s hilarious and has a short story both.

I’m glad you took the time to leave a real comment. I will follow you.
Lack of upvotes and comments can be discouraging at times, but I always tell myself there are eyes always on Steem & I am always on Steem. So chances are that eyes are often on me.

Plus I recently got confirmation that this was most certainly the case whenever Ned randomly commented on one of my posts after having not commented for over a year. I guess something I said resonated or altered his day. Solid proof that people are looking even if they don’t interact.
