BetterHash-decentralizing Bitcoin Mining(updated)

First you have to understand Bitmain does not have 51% of the hashpower-the pool does.

Not all the miners of the pool are Bitmain-many are individual miners pointing their asics to Bitmain aka btc.com and antpool,

Still confused on what I am saying?

Let me put it in a Steem style context:
Think of miners as another asset on bitcoin that votes on Bitcoin Blocks. They delegate their rigs to pools which represent them. If those miners do disagree they can undelagte it and switch to another pool.

However like many Steem delegators-the Miners are profit motivated. They delegate to Bitmain either because their are forced to(some large scale buyers signed contracts with Bitmain) or because Bitmain pools are so large finding blocks are more likely. The more Hash you have the more blocks you mine-the more money you make.

Slushpool is a very pro-Bitcoin company but even with all the respect they get, many miners want to make a profit.

This is where BetterHash-a Bitcoin proposal will give miners not the pool right to vote/control their hash while still using the pool.

Right now, pools use the Stratum-the most widely-used mining protocol.

Stratum protocol requires pool operators to build and distribute block templates to their clients. Without a diverse body of miners constructing block templates, the network’s censorship resistance is jeopardized (e.g. pool operators may use their position of power to restrict the flow of protocol upgrades).

**BetterHash will get rid of this pool control. **
BetterHash will allow individual miners to select the transactions they include in blocks, rather than letting mining pool operators make that choice for them, while still benefiting from the stable payouts that connecting to a pool provides.

At present, miners who want to use their own block templates must either solo mine or connect to small decentralized mining pool p2pool which has no stable payments.

Under BetterHash, pool operators would not be able to use their position to tell miners whether to adopt particular network upgrades. Moreover, giving miners more control over block templates also helps mitigate the risk of a government ordering a locally-operated mining pool to censor particular types of transactions.

Notably, BetterHash does not force miners to construct their own block templates if they do not want to, but it does give them the option to utilize the Work protocol to connect to another pool’s block template — even if they want to direct their hashpower somewhere else.

In addition to decreasing centralization within the bitcoin mining ecosystem, BetterHash also introduces some performance improvements over Stratum.

However
There is a new update to Stratum made by Slushpool.
Not much is know but it expected to contain a part of Betterhash:
As Matt the man behind Betterhash says:

They're both very similar in feature set, in fact, stratum v2 is the result of some good feedback from the @SlushPool folks on Betterhash plus both of us working together towards a common goal. Its more of a Betterhash v1.1 than something different, plus with a better (read: not already taken) name :).

Blockstream has announced they are working on making a betterhash pool while also owning a place to hold 6% of bitcoin hashrate:

Cool and is good to know that even in the bitcoin mining things are going to be more decentralized.
