Bitcoin vs Altcoins: what's the difference?

avatar

Bitcoin is still the king of cryptocurrencies. And that is not without reason. Most cryptocurrencies can only be purchased through Bictoins and the trading of digital coins is done nine out of ten times via bitcoin. Almost all exchanges use Bitcoin as a basis, with which the other coins can be purchased.

Altcoins are simply all other cryptocurrencies (digital coins), so no bitcoin. You can buy these altcoins when you have bitcoin in your possession and convert it to an exchange in a specific altcoin.

What are Satoshis?

Buying a whole Bictoin would of course be nice, but that is difficult for many. Moreover, most cryptocurrencies have a value that is much lower than an entire Bitcoin. A Bitcoin therefore consists of Satoshis, so that you can buy a fraction of a Bitcoin and you can also buy altcoins through a fraction of a Bitcoin.

A Satoshi is the smallest fraction of a Bitcoin that you can send. Smaller than a Satoshi, a Bitcoin can no longer be shared. A Satoshi is displayed in the following way: 0.00000001 BTC. This is a hundredth part of one millionth BTC. 1 Bitcoin is 100 million Sathoshis.

As an example; for example, you can buy 0.0001 Bitcoin yourself, which is 0.0001 times the value of one Bitcoin at that time. You can also buy a specific altcoin for that value of 0.00001300 Bitcoin (1300 Sathoshis).

Thank You.
