The biggest winner of the last decade wasn't a company at all

As the year winds down it is sometimes fun to look back at the year that was.

In this case, the decade that was.

We have seen and heard a lot of talk about unicorns and how well they have done over the past decade.

A unicorn is said to be a private company with a valuation over a billion dollars.

And if you are involved with finance or pay attention to CNBC at all, you have likely heard of the acronym FANG.

Which is a term used to describe tech behemoths Facebook, Amazon, Netflix, and Google.

However, looking back at the past 10 years, the best performing stock isn't a stock at all

In fact, it's not even a company.

It's Bitcoin.

Don't believe me?

Check it out:

If you had invested $100 in any of these companies on January 2nd, 2009 (or the earliest possible date for those younger than 10 years old) the total shown on the right is what you would have today.

During historic stock market gains, had you invested $100 in Apple, it would be worth $2,400.

A return of 24X.

Not too shabby.

Amazon bests that with a new standing total of $3,300 currently. A 33X return!

However, all of that pales in comparison to bitcoin...

$100 invested in bitcoin 10 years ago would now be worth $9,200,000!

Yes, you read that right... that's $9.2 MILLION.

For those keeping track, that's a return of 92,000X!

The next time someone starts talking about great unicorns or FANG have been over the past several years, you just stop em right there and tell em about ol bitcoin.

It's been the greatest unicorn or FANG of them all.

Perhaps the appropriate acronym should be BFANG.

Stay informed my friends.

BTC was created on the back of a financial collapse in 2008.

Will Steem achieve this type of gain in next seven years or upcoming decade?
