Travelling in the sunshine to see friends

Today I’m heading cross-country on what feels like the last weekend of the summer.

Apologies but there won’t be any data post today as there has been for the past month. I did have a quick look this morning and it seems like there is more engagement on the higher valued content - whether this is now being gamed as a result of listing this data, I am not sure.

One thing I have seen during this time of Bid-bot re-evaluation is that there seems to be a growing number that will take bids in SE tokens for a STEEM vote. Personally, I’m not a fan and feel the vote should be like-for-like, and disrupt the Tribe Hot/Trending pages.

Anyway, I’ll not worry about any of that today, the train is here.

My destination this weekend is Ely, a fairly affluent part of the UK with lots of surrounding countryside, and plenty of agriculture going on.

A school friend moved there as it is a suitable commuter town for London, if you don’t fancy living as well as working in the Big Smoke. I think he made a good choice, as he’s now got a family and the schools and quality of life is pretty decent to say the least.

We met in college, and he followed me to university so he’d have someone to keep him on ‘the straight and narrow’. I was a good student, not the brightest but at least I turned up. The roles switched during the first couple of years at Uni, and it would be him knocking on my door in the morning to see if I was ready for 9am business, on a Wednesday morning, after a student night. I mostly wasn’t, but did pick up the pace in the final year and we both collected a decent 2:1 grade.

After those 6 years or so, we have seen seen each other a lot less. Life has a habit of doing that should you not be located close by. We did manage 6 weeks in Asia not long after our studies, but since then (almost 20 years), it’s been the odd weekend here and there.

I was best man at his wedding, and my daughter a bridesmaid - that was a super day, apart from my speech I think, but it’s done now and they are still happily married so that will do me. They have two boys now, and the youngest who I think is about a year old I not seen in person. The eldest is a bit of a footballer, and I’m hoping I’ll get to see some silky skills today as we have a game of footy-golf planned.

I’m due to arrive shortly, and hoping they’ll collect me from the station as I forget the walk to his place. Time for a catch up.
