When I read her letter, I resonated so much with what she said. Our son was doing so well for quite a long time with diet alone to manage his t1d. Then a little into August, he caught a cold and diet wasn’t enough anymore. We had to go back to the insulin shots. I did not deal well with this new reality. I dug even deeper into researching ways to make the diet work again or other supplements and so on. Nothing was working. So many questions ran through my head. And yes, this idea that if we obey the Father and all will be well with us does not explain either why young, innocent children are struck with disease.
Finally after the exhaustion of it all became too much, I surrendered and came to an acceptance. I was able to hear the Father tell me, “You think you can control this. It’s not for you to control. In all of this, you have forgotten your first love. You have lost your joy.” And it was true.
He doesn’t always answer our “why” questions. But if there’s one thing all this has taught me is that He is good and He wants what’s best for us. What’s best for us is for our hearts to be in the right place and our faith be strong. Sometimes we only achieve that by receiving what we perceive as being a curse. But righting our hearts and strengthening our faith is far better for us than perfect health or any other blessing we could receive.

Thank you so much for sharing this with us. I can't imagine what it would be like having to make that decision. Sometimes it's only after making that decision that God grants His peace. I explained to my children the difference between curses for disobedience and illnesses from disease. Both put us in a place of repentance and beseeching the Most High and both have the potential for glorifying His name by our attitudes. Regardless, He is good throughout all circumstances.

A few notes from the show.........

What night did you say you started Yom Teruah? And did you blow it at the party? How was it received?

Honey? Well you "claim" you bought it but without the prop I guess we'll never know! :-) Thanks for including at least one prop!

I'm guessing boy!

Thanks for the update on Jaimie, I was just getting caught up. I'll be praying for her and Zac and the boys....

We blew the trumpet Sunday night, which happened to land on the sighting in Jerusalem. We've always been "conjunction", but this year we're lining up with the traditional calendar with our fellowship.

I brought the trumpet to the party, but there wasn't really an opportunity to blow it right at sunset. It was raining and everyone was winding down to leave. We blew the trumpet first thing when we got home, Daniel loved it!

The issue with Jaimie is very concerning, we are not giving up our prayers for her. It's especially times like these that we remind ourselves of the kindness, mercy and holiness of the Most High in all circumstances.

I find that going with the traditional calendar seems to be the best way. Here is a couple of reasons that make sense to me. First off if we are to drive Judah to jealousy how can we do that if...that group is doing the feast that day and then another group is doing it another day then there is still another group doing it another day. Judah would just look at that and see the confusion and would want no part of that.

The other reason is...

Genesis 49:10 The scepter shall not depart from Judah,
Nor a lawgiver from between his feet,
Until Shiloh comes;
And to Him shall be the obedience of the people.

This tells me that even if Judah is not doing it perfectly the way God wants it says here that until the Messiah comes Judah is the lawgiver and we are to do what Judah does. A Jewish council came up with the current calendar. Since Judah has not changed it why right do Gentiles have to change the calendar? Now am I saying that Judah has it 100% correct? Nope...but until Yeshua comes back I'm sticking with Judah!

I agree with your points and I can understand the desire to witness to the Jewish people and to acknowledge Judah as the lawgiver.

Calendar debates have been ongoing for centuries and I find it fascinating that it's even discussed in ancient Christian writings. Reading the Constitutions of the Holy Apostles, it talks about not computing the calendar yourself, but keeping the moedim with "your brethren of the circumcision".

Regarding the Passover:

Do not you yourselves compute, but keep it when your brethren of the circumcision do so: keep it together with them; and if they err in their computation, be not you concerned.

The context:

It is therefore your duty, brethren, who are redeemed by the precious blood of Christ, to observe the days of the Passover exactly, with all care, after the vernal equinox, lest ye be obliged to keep the memorial of the one passion twice in a year. Keep it once only in a year for Him that died but once. Do not you yourselves compute, but keep it when your brethren of the circumcision do so: keep it together with them; and if they err in their computation, be not you concerned. Keep your nights of watching in the middle of the days of unleavened bread. And when the Jews are feasting, do you fast and wail over them, because an the day of their feast they crucified Christ; p. 447 and while they are lamenting and eating unleavened bread in bitterness, do you feast. 3117 But no longer be careful to keep the feast with the Jews, for we have now no communion with them; for they have been led astray in regard to the calculation itself, which they think they accomplish perfectly, that they may be led astray on every hand, and be fenced off from the truth.
