Own house

IMG_2734.JPG

In our country, Argentina, it is very difficult to realize the dream of having a home for an average worker.

With my wife we were always attentive to the possibilities of social housing that the government usually offered at election time with the intention of obtaining more votes through these actions.

After several years of signing up when it was presented and that several doors were closed in 2008, we learned about a housing plan located on the outskirts of the city that, unlike other occasions, on this occasion required prior savings. to be able to register as a pre-adjudicator.

P1250559.JPG

At that time to be able to formalize the registration we were asked for $ 4,000, sum of money that not anyone could get to collect. Luckily, with my wife we were always very tidy with our finances and we always tried to save even if it was only a small amount of money, getting to collect at that time US $ 4,010, which we did not hesitate to invest in what would be our house.

The work plan for the 276 houses in the neighborhood was two years. These social homes are always equipped by the status of social housing.

P1250687.JPG

When the works began we came twice a month to see the progress of what would be the dream of our lives, which were very noticeable during the first months of works. So we could see, how they prepared the ground, how they made the structures of the houses and how little by little it was taking shape.

A little less than 4 months before the expiration of the stipulated deadline, the works suddenly stopped and the contracted companies began to withdraw from the neighborhood under construction, carrying the equipment (toilets, doors, windows) of the houses, which was a blow to all of us looking forward to our homes.

So with the paralyzed works and the neighborhood without custody, the houses were easy prey for vandalism. I still remember the anguish we felt when visiting the neighborhood and see that instead of progress, we had homes that were abandoned and severely damaged by the frequent acts of vandalism to which they were exposed.

P1250563.JPG

Already in 2013 we began to make claims in the city government and demand the delivery of the homes in the state in which they were being in charge of the completion of the works, a proposal to which they did not agree.

Years later, after multiple claims and pressuring the authorities of our city, we got the work resumed. This time the idea would not be that they deliver the 276 houses simultaneously but that they are delivered from lots of 10 or 12 houses.

P1250697.JPG

That was how, on February 22, 2016, they gave us our house, after years of struggle, to enforce our rights. That day we felt that all the time we had invested in exposing the problem in the media, meetings with the authorities made sense. We had achieved what we had fought so hard for.

P1260110.JPG

Of course, after so many years of abandonment, the houses had many problems with humidity and seepage on the roofs, but everything would be different because all the money we used to fix, expand or improve the house would be for our benefit.

A few months after delivery we started the extension of the ground floor since it was only 25 square meters and was extremely small. We request several loans and start with the extensions.

P1260763.JPG

Thank God we were able to double the covered area on the ground floor and close the patio with the walls. After that, we could not go much further because of the difficult economic situation in the country.

Unfortunately in the neighborhood there are still 15 undeliverable houses that are in total state of abandonment. Hopefully they will be delivered as soon as possible and that everyone can fulfill their dream of their own home.

P1260770.JPG

This left us great teachings; the first is that we had not been wrong in making much sacrifice for several years for which we managed to save the $ 4,000 we paid for admission.

The second teaching is that in this country everything costs too much and you have to fight hard to achieve the proposed objectives.

Today all those bad feelings were in the past and we can say that we are fortunate to have our house, which we are paying the monthly fee.
