You are going to want to click this one as it involves Voodoo and a double-double that will send you to the coast.

This week, I discover some new brews from some old favourite breweries. As a bonus, I have added a "Small Can of the Week" feature.

Strap on your drinkin' socks and lets do this!

Shorty of the Week!

IMG_0396.jpg

Having abandoned the 355mL vessel in favour of a proper pint years ago, I find myself really enjoying a few short cans in the fridge when it is time for just a little less beer. It happens!

I have been a fan of Anderson Craft Ales https://andersoncraftales.ca/ for many moons because of their family nature and the fantastic IPA. This week, I was pleased to find what promised to be an even Juicier IPA https://andersoncraftales.ca/shop/juicieripa The juicier the better!

While I generally reserve these for an afternoon book readin' beer or an occasional last of the night sip, this one was so good I mistakenly drank 3 of them the night I brought them home. That should be review enough as the label sums it all up: Plain Juicy and as good as Anderson always is.

The Goose is Back

IMG_0362.jpg

Goose Island Beer Company https://www.gooseisland.com/ hails from Chicago but I think distributes through Labatt's which is generally an indicator of boring beer. That being the case, I have enjoyed Goose Island IPA and the Left Coast variety as well. Having a big mouth and a refined IPA palate, I can name a dozen IPAs I would prefer in any given moment. Still, I enjoy Goose Island pints regularly because of the draft availability in restaurants and pubs.

IMG_0363.jpg

This one is the latest Next Coast IPA https://www.gooseisland.com/next-coast-ipa is described on the web-page as,"It’s 7%, but totally crushable — it’s not quite like any other IPA you’ve had. Big, bracing, piney hop flavors meet a tropical bouquet of Nugget, Citra, and Mosaic hops. There’s a balanced bitterness that blends seamlessly into the light to medium body. Sip it or rip it. We're not your mom."

I am not sure what bracing tastes like, have never heard of Nugget hops, and believe my mom should never be used in describing a beer I should try. Still, this is a tasty beer and I think I may like it better than all previous Goose Island beers to date. Good stuff!

VooDoo Ranger?

IMG_0390.jpg

I will tell you about the beer for a change instead of starting with the (sneaky) brewery. It is true I am a sucker and will buy at least one of every previously untasted can emblazoned with the letters IPA. The illustration was neat enough but I wondered if they had run our of beer names and were just throwing cool words like Voodoo, Ranger (and Belgium for that matter.)

It is strangely clear for an IPA but ended up being solid and tasty. Will buy again.

IMG_0391.jpg

When I looked to the side of the vessel to read a little story, description or elements, all I found was vague ingredients and a boring brewery who very successfully peddles bland beer. I will link Steam Whistle Breweries https://steamwhistle.ca/ because they have a trace of microbrewery still left and any linkbacks are good for their SEO (search engine optimization.)

Double-Double

IMG_0365.jpg

This one is for @scubahead who has got a fever, and the Beerologist's prescription is always more Cowbell Brewing Co. https://cowbellbrewing.com/ They are a regional favorite of mine because of the scale of the brewery in such a small town in close proximity, and they make a tasty damn IPA! 'Nuf said!

IMG_0366.jpg

In hoser terms, a double-double is general used to described a Tim's Horton's crap coffee with 2 cream and 2 sugar to mask the taste. Double Exposure https://store.cowbellbrewing.com/collections/craft-beer/products/double-exposure is a much better use for that name as it is a double dry-hopped, double IPA. While the description on the can is a jumble of all the standard buzzwords assembled to snag the attention of hipsters, they double up on the messaging there as well.

Almost anything double dry-hopped or New England is going to be my speed, especially when it is both. This is a special and enjoyable adventure as expected though I would choose Hazy Days https://store.cowbellbrewing.com/collections/craft-beer/products/hazy-days if it was next on the shelf... and still solidly in my vaulted top-5.

This one gets my strongest endorsement and Zeke's Ball as a bonus. It is indeed the prescription.

At least in my neck of the woods, Goose Island is probably the cheapest decent IPA. Quaffable at a reasonable price.

Ya it is a nice default because of its widespread availability kinda like Sierra Nevada.
