Just For Laughs? Did Fun Tokens Perform Better Than Serious Ones?

Summary

• Three of five “fun-tokens” on Steem-Engine overperformed STEEM. But volatility is too high.
• The price of SHIT fell less than STEEM – but the volume is near zero.
• Are these tokens only a joke? No.

It’s Sunday, let’s see some tokens which aren’t to be taken very seriously. These coins don’t want to change the whole entertainment industry, disrupt the financial system or make their funders super-rich. They are only funny, nice or pretend to forge friendships, small communities. I suppose.

But they have also prices, and if they have, they can be charted. And we can calculate also yields, maybe Turboyields. I choose these five tokens in the table:

Fun Tokens Perform Better Than Serious Ones

As you see, in the last two months, three from five tokens overperformed the 20 percent fall of Steem price. Two of them jumped: BEER price doubled, DRAMA is sevenfold more worth than before. Nice. In my previous researches – like here – Steem-Engine tokens, on average, underperformed STEEM price in USD terms.

Okay, the truth is, in the case of only five coins, the statistical sample is too small. And, just in August, DRAMA price fell in an abyss for 1-2 weeks. In the long term, it is not much higher, as you see on the chart. The volatility of these tokens is extremely high. But only very few tokens were able to grow significantly in price in the long term in the past.

Activity tokens without volume

I don’t think these tokens were pointless, were only jokes. They seem to be able to curb activity of people on Steemit.com and similar pages, mostly in chats or maybe also in Discord channels. They help to form small communities, initiate friendships, bring people together. Like the first one, BEER, by which I see a lot of chat activity ultimately.

The problem is, the liquidity, volume on the market is so incredibly low, that the price doesn’t matter. These tokens can jump as high as they want, a serious investor won’t touch them. But they are fun. :)

BEER

is a “token for BEER lovers on the Blockchain”. They make Beersaturday” events and a BEER token can be sent to somebody as a gift by only writing !BEER in a comment. (If the donating person has enough “BEER”.) It seems to be the beginning of a nice community.

DRAMA

The DRAMA, from @whatsup, appears in case of heavy discussions, tensions, fights on Steem pages. “DRAMA has no rhyme or reason it just happens. The purpose of DRAMA is tokenize drama, upset, belly-aching, crying, blaming, temper-tantrums and other forms of over-the-top drama found on the STEEM blockchain.” Tokens are issued by a bot that can call any Steemian who is holding at least ten DRAMA tokens.

COFFEEA

“The ultimate caffeine-fueled token to share with your friends.” That is a token of Steem Blockchain Witness c0ff33a. The purpose may be similar to BEER token, but I can’t find the description.

CAT

I always wanted to know how, in reality, cats are born. By CATS token, “every day 1 CATS produces 1 KITTENS”. :) Not to be confused with CAT (Cat Appreciation Token). I chose the chart of the latter because its trading volume seems to be much higher. The description of CAT is the following:

The global population of cats is quite hard to ascertain with their estimates ranging from 200 million to over 600 million, and this includes all the feral cats, strays, and pets. But there will never be more than 700 million CAT!

SHIT

“Official NGC Shittoken. SHIT tokens have no value. You get nothing for SHIT. You should never give anything for SHIT. SHIT is worthless. Long live SHIT.” Maybe a dead SHIT project, they didn’t publish anything for seven months. It is a big surprise the price is relatively stable.

Their charter seems to be:

SHIT tokens have no value. SHIT should never be sold, for real. SHIT should never be purchased, again, it's worthless SHIT. SHIT is not backed by anything. SHIT is 100% unpredictable. SHIT may be flushed at any time.

I saw they were threatening with heavy downvotes. Who said Steem has no censorshit? :)
