Post Kayaking Beer

It’s been a while since I’ve been out kayaking. It’s something I really enjoy, but with everything going on it just seemed like a lot to go out. I’m trying to do more things I enjoy to help mute all the negative news surrounding us. Mental health is critical and at this point I know a lot of people are struggling with the pandemic, politics and the stresses of daily life. I know I am...

Out on the water I’m more at easy. I can concentrate on my breathing, the water or wildlife.

In face, I followed this turtle around for a while just watching him eat insects and scavenge around on the bottom. I can’t say how much a I appreciated this time.

To continue this bit of relaxation I ended up cracking open a Cerise by Founders.

This is a cherry beer which only uses fresh Michigan tart cherries. These cherries give it a beautiful red color with a fluffy soft pink head.

The aroma is floral and fruity. It smells like freshly picked cherries. There’s a subtle malt and grain that help balance the beer. However, it’s very fruit forward.

This beauty tantalizes the tastebuds with intense flavors combined with a no hesitation malt bill. Adding fresh cherries at five separate stages of fermentation achieves the ultimate balance between tartness and sweetness. I’m not a fan of super sweet beer and fruited beers can mean that way. Founders did an excellent job leaning on the tart aspect which pairs much better with my preferences. Honestly, it’s hard to tell this is even beer! You could give this to your non beer drinkers and I think they would enjoy it.

The mouthfeel is very smooth and light. I would not expect anything less from a delicate fruit beer. There’s a medium amount of carbonation and a slight sweetness that lingers on the tongue. It’s pretty clean and has a bit of sour tart that makes it interesting.

Overall, it’s an excellent fruit beer. I’m not going to crush ten of these in a day, but I’ll have 1 or 2 for an nice relaxing evening.

Very nice! It has been a long time since my wife and I have been kayaking. We actually don't own any so we have to rent them when we go. It was a lot of fun and I think my wife secretly longs to do it again. We have a couple of places that sell them near here, but they have been out of stock most of the Summer because everyone is wanting to get out after being cooped up all Spring!

It’s a fairly cheap investment. I think our kayaks were in the $300-$400 range. Plus a paddle for about $50-150, but honestly they last. I think we have had ours for 4 or 5 years and we have been in some pretty rough and rocky areas.

That is cool. Our problem is we don't have a way to transport them if we are hauling the trailer too. I can't afford one of those fancy racks! We like the sit-on style. The sit-in ones are too tippy for me.
